We have absolutely been schooled by Chelsea who came in and met Soton’s demands and snatched the player out from under us. there’s no angle where we look smart or virtuous here, we look like fucking dickheads at the minute. Could have had this deal wrapped up 2 weeks ago if we’d offered 50M, the player wants to come to us. Instead, we dallied and let someone else grab him. No-one to blame but ourselves. Chelsea’s “conduct” is that they’ve met the selling club’s valuation for the player. We did not.

They’ve done the same with Caciedo for the last two months and we’ve come in and got a deal agreed with Brighton.
Only difference is it seems he doesn’t want to come.
And if it was a priority we surely would have. It clearly wasnt an issue of money being available.
Chelsea’s conduct is they pisses around for weeks over a player everyone assumed was their for weeks, lost an auction for him, and then in panicking to figure out what they were going to do in response sullied their name by fucking over a player they had already put through a medical and have, at least reportedly, now jumped to pay an inflated fee for a different player

How is it not priority? We desperately need a number 6. If we end the window without bringing in a top class CDM you might as well pencil us into 8th place next May.

If we don’t value him at £55m then they’ve not schooled us at all. They’ve just paid more than we think he’s worth.
As negotiation tactics go it’s hardly masterful is it.
Oh and they’re having to up their last bid for Caicedo by at least £30m. A player everyone believed was going there eventually anyway. Such clever work from them.

Let’s see how clever this club is then. Nothing finalised yet. However we can hardly wait another window or season to properly strengthen with the gaps there currently is.
