Romeo Lavia (DM/CM) Southampton

Probably waiting sure the Henderson deal is finalised.

Perhaps the wrong phrasing on my part. I kind of meant let’s not waste time from here. We’re close enough that it could be sorted pretty quickly so let’s not do one of our “stick to valuation” jobs and drag things out for another couple weeks and have him miss all of pre-season.

Just ring Southampton first thing, thrash it out and get the lad up north by Thursday for his medical. Easy.

@sachatavolieri

Sources on the Romeo #Lavia’s deal to #LiverpoolFC feels reasonably confident as the talks are ON and will continue during the week. #SouthamptonFC wants to get a fixed fee of 40M£ comparable to the buyback clause of Man City in 2024, what they would define as a good business. !Five years contract ready. A 2cd improved bid expected

maybe something like 40 mil plus 3-4 mil addon

How reputed is this guy ?

buying someone for 37M + addon’s sits better than buying him for 50m.

Also do imagine that there will be favours done by Liverpool to Southampton , Some people going on loan perhaps to aid their promotion bid.

very good source for belgian players…dont know about other players

Also just read that Lavia shares the same agent as Ibou.

we only off by 3 million, so give them the 40 plus 2-3 in addons

Plus some nice academy grads on loan to help them come up.

Morton perhaps , he’s proven championship caliber.

I’m glad you are not part of our negotiating team… but this does feel close and like we are (and should) get it done.

I hope we close the deal for Lavia as I think he has all the tools to become an excellent player. I think he is already good, but will probably need a little rotation as he gets up to speed at Liverpool. No problem, bring it on.

As for the negotiations, we have a tiny fraction of the information the club has. The club representatives will know the budget, the valuation we put on the player, other possible alternate options we have in mind, the wishes of the player, as well as who else might be in for Lavia.

With all those factors, and probably more besides, we will be trying to get the best deal possible for LFC, and long may that continue.

As I sit here on my chair at home typing, I could easily write just pay the 50M and close it, and let’s move on, as it is not my money!

My expectation of the club is that we will continue to fight for the best deal possible for LFC.

My best guess?

We will pay something like £40M guaranteed + £5M add ons + a useful loan for Southampton, and the deal will be completed over the next couple of days.

Wow! That’s huge praise. So up with/near Jude? Then we should pay the cash. Hugely disappointed to miss out on Jude (who I thought was very well worth his fee -if not his wages) so getting a player who could be v close to as good would be brilliant.

Bellingham is a outlier. Lavia isn’t Bellingham and he shouldn’t be expected to become one. Lavia is young , talented and there are quite a few things which work in his favour when it comes to bring in a Liverpool side.

As to potential upside , nothing is certain in football. Bellingham himself might struggle (various possible reasons) to reach his full potential. It’s not for lack of talent. But it’s not a given that potential always equates to results. Same goes for Lavia for that matter.

The transfer fee is high for a 19 year old but if Liverpool feel that he’s the best of the lot who are willing to come (likes of bellingham , Tchouameni, Valverde , Camavinga aren’t) , then it’s a fair judgement. The DM role is something where clubs increasingly look to shell out more money because football now has changed from where you could use a #8 BBM and make him play further back. Almost every good team has either a good destroyer or a good press resistant recycler if not both.

I propose that every time someone uses the term “press resistant” in relation to Lavia, they get fined £10.

@ISMF would have the board’s running costs paid in no time.

Has somebody mentioned that he is press-resistant … :innocent:

I’m not saying just give them what they want. But £37m plus add-ons to £40m isn’t really that far off what they want.

Another couple million up front and a couple more million in additional add-ons should be both do-able and enough to get it done. We don’t need to fanny about for a week to find that compromise.

Sounds very much like the player is keen and if he’s going to go, which almost seems certain one way or another, then Southampton probably want the deal done quickly too.

If we were miles apart and Southampton were steadfast on what they wanted and weren’t budging then we’d be right to move on. But there’s a willing seller there and we’re a motivated buyer. A compromise should be pretty quick to reach.

Some self-proclaimed “Transfer Guru” on what used to be Twitter is saying, as of about 30 mins ago, that both clubs have agreed a fee with a “total package” of 40 million including add-ons. Absolutely no source is cited by this “Transfer Guru”.

Likely a “Transfer Goondu” (which in our part of the world means idiot.).
