I suspect we’ve been in touch well before today, so they probably do have someone lined up. There were rumours last week that we were open to signing Andre and him joining in the winter window.
I wouldn’t be surprised if we were looking to bring in both Andre and Lavia.
I’m sick of hearing about this clause like it’s some kind of guarantee that Man City would be back in for him next summer.
They don’t have to wait until next summer to bid. They could bid £40m now and it would be worth 20% more to Southampton than a £40m offer we make. But they aren’t. No even to keep him out of our hands.
But somehow if he sticks it out with a Championship club for a year City will definitely trigger that clause next year.
The clauses are irrelevant unless City want to get involved this summer, something they’ve given no indication they are willing to do.
