I am genuinely not trying to disagree with yours or anyone’s else’s points of view. In fact I have openly acknowledged other people’s points.
My post was questioning why Barca would be so open to getting rid of their Captain.
By your own words they looked at players like him as liabilities but still made him club captain.
Again by your own words he came into the first team whilst they were going through a financial crisis but still gave him a 230k contract.
I think we are both in agreement, that this is Barca being Barca

Doesn´t suit their style and they consider him a bit erratic.
They also have Cubarsi who is Catalan and they think will be better. And Garcia.

Yeah seems crazy doesn’t it! I’ve not followed the internal Barca machinations, but just so pleased we’ve got a CB in. Definitely question marks around him but happy to reserve judgement and I expect, as a minimum, he’ll do fairly well when he’s on the pitch.

I think from the discussions on this thread he has a lot of positives. To be made Captain of a Barca and from a personal aspect be so open about his struggles mentally, for me demonstrates a strong character.
I think people have answered my concerns and also validated my positive views.
However, I still have concerns as to how we have come to this transfer.

Hopefully Araujo is immune to the idiot press. He has his own story arc to attend to. Great age and experience, and quite possibly a real opportunity to establish himself as a hero while we wait on the younger breed to come through. Good luck to that man.
Fast forward to the end of the season. For all we know he has done so well that he takes on the mantle of the seasoned leader of the defence, as Virg and Joe move on, and the younger breed jostle to see first team action.

If he is referring to Leoni, etc, and the club are expecting to manage a whole season with a 34 year old CB and a youngster then we really are delusional.

He isn’t implying anything. He is explicitly stating we are not looking to extend this beyond the one year loan deal. Whether that’s true we’ll see but you’ve seemingly completely misunderstood a pretty elementary statement

If he is superb, then it prevents Barca from quoting ridiculous prices later on.
If he is ok and we like to keep him as a backup or rotation and Barca is willing to sell, that price gives a baseline for renegotiation for a lower price.
Do you really have to try and pull me up on something as basic as that…really! It’s pretty pathetic. There is no justification for your post other than you trying to have a dig.

It’s pathetic from Joyce. But I don’t believe that this is factual. It’s just baseless shit-stirring. Why would the club close the door on anything before he has even kicked a ball with us?
Very disappointing. From now on, I won’t listen anymore to anything this guy says or writes.

Agreed… it makes no sense except to create ill will.
We definitely hope he does amazingly well for us and we want to keep him. Especially since we will be short of an experienced CB next season even if Leoni, Jacquet, Ndukwe all prove themselves.
You also don’t negotiate a right to buy if you were not considering it. Again this would be creating ill will if there was no intent behind it.

I’m guessing here that the intention isn’t to sign him long term, but the option is clearly there. The player is aware of this. If he proves to be indispensable we have the option to make him permanent. If he has a good season, but we are happy with our younger CB signings then he is in a good position to negotiate with another club. Either way, he should be motivated to do well.
I agree that Joyce’s choice of words is rather disrespectful.

None of my friends who follow la liga more than me think that this is a particularly good decision for Liverpool.
I suppose Araujo can prove them wrong. But he’s also the remnant of the time for Barcelona when they were all over the place w.r.t transfers.
Flick doesn’t rate him enough though. I do think there’s a player in there. Just not sure as to how a player who isn’t good enough to play in defense for Barcelona is right now our second choice CB

Even if it’s true, I don’t see why Joyce would be privy to such information. If someone from within the club naively entrusted him with such details, they obviously expected not to see it show up in an article
This is almost as bad as Slot publicly proclaiming that Ramsay and Endo weren’t good enough.

Yes, that’s exactly it. A loan deal is what it is, obviously. Just the wording made it sound like the club don’t want him to be there, an odd way to introduce the new guy.
Anyway, we saw Marcus Rashford having a really good loan at Barca last season, and in the end it wasn’t enough for them to use their buy option. So it’s possible he has a good season for us, many fans think the club should make it permanent, and then they don’t because they’ve got other long term plans. Not an unlikely outcome.
