Ryan GRAVENBERCH: 2023/24

Remember when someone on here said he looked miserable, seems the opposite to me

That’s I laugh at every photo he is smiling in

This guy has a bright future. Love his physicality and ability to carry the ball, and we’ve only seen him a handful of times yet.

The criticisms of him were those made of many technical foreigners - they allow the game to pass them by. So picking a derby as his first league start was a challenge, but he did very well.

He’s played far above the standards I’ve seen him perform at - Ajax and Bayern both I thought he came across as languid. Maybe at Ajax he was too comfortable and at Bayern he was too afraid to make a mistake… who knows. Eitherway he is playing really well and I’m glad to see it. Long may it continue!

Haven’t really had chance to see him play much so Saturday was the first chance and I felt he played well.

I’d like to try him at the #6 ahead of MacAllister for a game or two, see how he does.

He will definitely do. Been excellent today.

I don’t watch much football aside from Liverpool games. Is Bayern’s midfield really so loaded that Gravenberch couldn’t get decent mins?

Sometimes it can just be the wrong club at the wrong time.

Yes, just goes to prove that two wrongs don’t make a right.

I’m getting Countinho-level robbery vibes. How we go him so cheap off Inter. Ryan off Bayern might be not far away from that!

Now we have two genuine galloping young 8’s

Very good. If he continues like this and keeps improving, he will have a strong case for entering our starting XI, even when all fit.

We seem to have 4 players who are all best in the #8 positions who will hopefully carry our midfield in the near and longer future. Szoboszlai, Gravenberch, Mac Allister and Jones.

I still think we will need a more serious #6 behind them (don’t think Endo is of the calibre to start for us, while Klopp said he believes Mac can also be a #6 long term, I still don’t).

Reminds me of (a good) Pogba in some ways!

Surely the conclusion to take from that is that Jürgen doesn’t really care that much about having a specialist #6?

De Bruyne at Chelsea as well

Basically everyone at Chelsea at this point.

Bobby under Rodgers

There’s styles and there’s quality. I’m not saying we need a pure destroyer at #6, but the fact that ā€œwe’re evolvingā€ doesn’t mean that Mac or Endo are the solution for us long term in this position. Hope I’m proven wrong, but so far I don’t think they’ll be what we need in this position.

That Ā£111m we offered for Caicedo looks a lot of money now doesn’t it?
