It’s Melissa’s piece on Sky just moments ago…she may retweet it on her twitter account at some point, not sure.
Reading between the lines here, it seems especially foolish of the club in hindsight to miss out on him the first time around.
Looks like we’re setting ourselves up to conclude our business pretty early on this window (as we do most summers tbh) if reports by Romano, Reddy, Ornstein are to be believed by meeting up with his reps as well as Macallister.
I thought the whole point of football was to complain about your clubs owners
Nobody has the first fucking idea what is planned or available in terms of investment.
I could make a case for the club finding £150-200m as a big investment summer.
On TIA this would have copped you two days off. Don’t take advantage of our leniency at this place, please.
Why foolish? The deal with Bayern was finalized before there was any real reporting of our interest. He seemed more a case of one of the many players our team short lists than someone we were particularly interested in pursuing.
Oh god, she describes him as a multi-functional midfielder…
Think there’s a lot to like about him. The fact we were looking at him last year shows he’s someone we’ve had a long term interest in but he’ll be a bit of a project and no doubt need some time.
As one of three additions, i’d be happy. As one of two, I’d prefer someone a bit more established and ready to go. Perhaps it’s just the nature of where we’re having to shop without CL football and a bunch of work we need to do.
I remember last year there were some early rumours going round and was definitely one of the players connected with us, but Bayern snapped him up very early in the window.
I simply do not understand the sniffiness around him. He is a player we’ve like for a while. We should be able to get him for around £25m (unless this little transfer feud we have with Bayern carries on ), and he is potentially really good. Good age. Would be delighted to get him, and it makes a great start to the summer.
He is also 6’2”, which means I’ll be able to call for him to be converted into a Centre Back in six months, and I always enjoy that.
I think whoever or whomever we get will need time, we need to find that balance and seemingly telepathic understanding which we had with Fab Hendo Gini for those 3-4 years…they complimented each other so well that they were able to implement their game without much thought over the opposition and get the upper hand 9 times out of 10.
There were definitely some comments about our interest in him, but it was maybe only the second or third time I’d seen any link that his move to Bayern was confirmed, but reporting it as “liverpool target signs for Bayern” with lots of people responding to it with a question of “who?”
Welp, this means we need to find someone else!
Oh no, who is going to play DM for us now.
Let’s not aggravate this please.
How is he going to make his breakthrough at Bayern if he is shit. I’m so confused by this window.
Funnily enough I think Mel Reddy named him in a list of players we’d been interested in but the article came out after he’d gone to Bayern. That was the first time I think someone you’d trust named him.
August 2022:
We’ve spoken many times before on Sky Sports about the long-term targets they’ve looked at in midfield – Jude Bellingham, for example.
“I know they like Enzo Fernandez, who’s just gone to Benfica, and are keeping a watching brief on him. They liked Ryan Gravenberch, who was at Ajax and who’s moved to Bayern Munich.
“So the club are always scouting, always on the lookout and when the right player is available, I have no doubt that they will act.”
Interesting point as it also joins up with the not wanting to miss out on targets faffing around with Bellingham all summer.
It feels like peak summer transfer window already. Strap yourself in, it’s going to be a bumpy ride.
