It’s really interesting how rarely we and up in these situations where we keep submitting bids, adding a few million to the price each time, in the hope one sticks.
We tend to make an ‘official’ bid at the point where everything has been agreed behind the scenes and it’s more or less a formality.
Easy way to deal with that is turn it round on them.
£40m up front and then for every Champions League title and Ballon d-Or he wins, we’ll refund them £2.5m each time up to a maximum of three of each. Means he could end costing them as little as £25m.
Let’s see how much faith and belief they have in him and that deal.
No point getting pissy with Bayern. They believe their target wants to join them and they are doing what they think will allow them to reach the best deal for themselves, under little timeline pressure. It’s just the game.
This is true, I seem to recall quite a few clubs have been complimentary about doing business with us in recent years. Porto and the Red Bull bunch stand out in my mind for that.
I love how we got Thiago from Bayern for a “cheap” fee and then Bayern, presumably thinking we have some sort of unwritten agreement with each other, try and low ball us for Mane and we just tell them to get stuffed.
Not our fault Bayern decided to let Thiago go on the cheap. Make a real bid for Mane and we will talk.
I’d take 40m with Darwin Nunez coming in would be fine. I would then assume any of the money we make from the others would go towards funding any CM we may or make not buy.
