Sadio Mane (LW) to Bayern

Geez, if true thats insane! No wonder he’s asked to leave for a “challenge”.

From what Pearce is saying that sounds in the ball park what Salah is asking, I doubt we will budge to that extent, if these players were 27 I think we’d consider. Issue I have is would we then see a return of Mane from the Covid period.

Imagine paying 400k for that return. Rather we move on and wish him well.

If the club are willing to listen for offers of £42m, thats 2 years worth of the wages requested.

Agreed. £400k each for Covid Mané and post-AFCON Salah? No thanks.

And then there’ll be Virgil, Alisson etc looking for raises.

I guess it’s no coincidence that an anagram of Sadio is Adios…

 wonder what all the posters on here who were giving fans grief for saying players are motivated primarily by money now think…

honestly would bayern pay that, don’t think so. only real or psg would pay that if they really want him. or like i mentioned a few days ago, don’t be surprised for newcastle to tempt mane with ridiculous wages.

It’s Bild ffs

They’d probably take a story in a German tabloid with a pinch of salt.

If Mane was only influenced by money he’d have left us before now

But they aren’t motivated by ‘money’ per se. Money just happens to be the currency of how a player is valued on the world stage. Salah expects that he will get paid similar to others of his standing in the game. Mane expects to get paid similar to Salah.

It’s unfortunate that there are a few clubs like United and PSG who have no wage boundaries and put players on wages much more than they are worth, which makes it more difficult for clubs like ours.

It’s far more about ego than money.

Bloody hell, who is making up these stories.

Let’s wait and see what wages he goes on. Bet it’s something similar to what Lewandowski was.

It’s semantics at the end of the day, at the root is money.

Guess my view would by why the hell would you price yourself out of staying at this club, I find it crazy anyone would entertain leaving, which is what it appears both Salah and Mane have done. They know our wage structure, they know this is a club that doesn’t operate on a cheat mode, yet they’ve asked for wages which would totally go beyond what we can afford.

I’d argue Van Dijk is the best defender in the world, he is a Ballon Dor contender, yet he’s accepted to remain here within our wage structure. So it is possible if you look beyond “money”, I’d argue the point ad nauseam if it was known Van Dijk wanted to leave he could double his wages in an instant.

For some players(less and less overtime it seems) its not just about money.

Virg has won every major Trophy with us and will continue to compete for more honours and will retire from the game an absolute legend who will be loved by the Fanbase forever.

And he’ll be wealthy as because he’s still made mucho dollars because we still pay very well just not at the stupid levels of the poorly run oil rich clubs.

It is somewhat of a different market rate between attacking players and defensive players though. Rightly or wrongly that’s just how the market values them.

Van Dijk is probably in the top 5-10 highest paid defenders in the world already and we’re fortunate that that fits within our structure. But to make Salah a top 5-10 highest paid forward in the world is probably going to mean doubling his current wages to something the club just can’t accommodate.

Neither are going to be short of cash come their retirement from the game but Salah can demand more than van Dijk and that’s what it appears he’s doing. Does he need that level rumoured, god no. But the market dictates he can ask for it. If we can’t afford it then I guess PSG, City, Real or Newcastle will be his only options next summer.

Not even that, wages can be used as a proxy for where you stand in the club’s plans. Someone like Mane is at a stage of his career where he knows we’re at least thinking about a post Mane era and phasing him out. He might reasonably not want to commit to a club with advanced plans for making that transition. Not paying him his increased demands doesnt mean he is being phased out, but negotiating with him in good faith in a ball park area might indicate to a player they are still at the center of the plans for the period of that contract.

If Mane wants to leave for a payday that’s absolutely fine. He’s given us quite a few good years and now, aged 30, he probably feels like this is the time to really get as much money as possible. We know he has a lot of charitable works back in Senegal and the extra millions could well be being put towards those foundations.

Either way, it’s his right to explore new options. Having won every trophy available at Liverpool why not go to Bayern Munich and have a bit of a different experience for a few years?

Maybe a rehash of information, I didn’t see this posted today.

It sounds quite advanced if he has agreed a deal with Bayern.

Still, I like what I read at the outset about us protecting our interests. We will deal when the correct fee is met AND when we have a replacement lined up.

Personally, I would like it if we managed to get Gnabry from Bayern but I don’t even know if that is an option, or if he is maximizing his earning potential via the Bosman route in a year.

But Gnabry and Nunez in, and Sadio and Mo out, whenever it all syncs up, would be a good outcome from all this.

We’ve no idea if that would be a good outcome. It’s swapping a guarantee for a hope
