Yes but neither were Mane or Salah when they first came, nor is Diaz. Players have to be replaced eventually. I’d love to see both stay for 3 more seasons but just doesn’t look like that will happen. So we need to find replacements and move forward.
For “good outcome” maybe I might have said, “I would take that.”
With regard to guarantees, at this point Sadio and Mo do not guarantee us much, at all. Sadio is going, very likely this summer, and Mo will be going not too long after, likely next summer. They have both been world class but moving forward they don’t guarantee us what we need, because they won’t be here, so we need replacements.
At that point, just spitballing names and circumstances, but on the balance of probability, I think Gnabry and Nunez would be good signings. Still, it’s fair enough to say that I can only hope that they would be good signings.
I mean we look at take home salaries. Even if the overall package increases , the take home is something that employees would look at. Maybe there’s a tax slabs as well… Speculation ofcourse.
I’m not sure where negotiations are up to, but I would like Darwin Nunez this summer if Sadio leaves. I see a front three of Diaz - Nunez - Salah as being quite devastating; with Jota, Firmino and Carvalho to have a say too.
Next summer we can see what’s what with Mo. If he is off and we swapped one Bosman for another, say Gnabry, I would take that. But there’s a lot that can happen between now and then.
So to sharpen the focus, Nunez in, this summer, if Sadio is off.
Then of course we boost the midfield. We know we liked Tchouameni, so if it’s not him, who else might it be? Apparently we are interested in Gavi and Barcelona have financial problems. He’s a different sort to Tchouameni, so maybe we would sign two midfielders if Gavi was one of them? Or maybe we would wait until next summer for Bellingham?
It will be interesting to see how it pans out. Mane needs a replacement. Nunez for me, especially with losing Origi too, as at the moment we are a bunch of diddy men, and we need some physical presence in there.
And lets boost the midfield. Maybe an opportunist move for Gavi?
The tax rates are pretty much the same (50% for the high earning brackets). So even a salary of 390k per week would come down to 195k. It’s fair that people tend to maximise their earning potential in the last few productive years of their career.
Still way too much money , but that’s capitalism for you. I wouldn’t blame Sadio if he gets his demands with Bayern.
Serious question, post Brexit are there are any regulations outside the league’s HG requirements that affect the number of South Americans we can have?
JW has his work cut out for him this off season. I bet he didnt expect sadio to leave, salah to hold the club at ransom as well as refresh the squad. so much to do on his first major summer as director. It will define his legacy jus like Edwards first summer in charge did
They would have to qualify through the points-based system like anyone else. Players who are in the Copa Libertadores should be fairly easy to sign directly from South America (it is a Band 1 competition just like the Champions League).
Sorry, Mr [looks down at the application on his desk] NoooNez, I’d love to give you a work permit, but I’ve only seen you play twice so how do I know you’re any good?
