Lot of merit in this early on. Face mask called, it was just a stiff arm, which is fine. Would have put the eagles in a great position for a touch down.

I don’t have a team, just want a good game, but I thought the Eagles were just robbed.

The Exciting White! Happy birthday!

Paddy has no friends.

Eagles are killing them. So good. Half time but it looks all over. Let’s see if the Chiefs can do anything to even make a bit of a game of it.

That was great.

US sports coverage can is often far too “personal narrative focused”, but its impossible not to be impressed by Hurts’ path to here. At Alabama he was considered a weak link on a powerhouse side even when he was playing. Eventually was dropped for a younger hotter prospect forcing him to leave to find game time and ended up with a career no one would have ever thought possible at that point.

Fun fact: The highest rated QB coming out of high school in that game was Tanner McKee and the highest drafted QB in that game was Carson Wentz :joy:

I have never seen an offensive linesman tackle his own quarter back before, now I have.
From what I saw all I can think and say is ‘what a défensive line’. Had KC chasing shadows.
I had not seen Eagles this season or last season, for that matter, and they took me by surprise.
Just loved the way they played.
I couldn’t watch to the end as I started nodding off.

The Eagles were better than I expected. Very impressive. The Chiefs didn’t know what hit them and couldn’t get anything going until it was all over, sort of like watching a team lose 6-3 at footy, scoring a couple of late consolation goals after the game is well over.

The NFL has become incredibly boring over the past decade or so with the pass first, pass second, and pass third tactical approach that has been enabled by changes to the rules that make defending harder. I loved that the Eagles played an almost old fashioned brand of football with a running back actually running the ball as the focal point of their offense. I hope this represents an actual tactical shift in the league rather than just a one off peculiarity.

Also big shout to Kendrick and his half time show. We watched it and saw first hand how over the head it went of the majority of people in the room we were in and the response has been sadly predictable and demonstrated why it was such home run performance. And also absolutely loved the Serena appearance

“and it’s probably A-MINOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRR”

Definitely went over my head. I’m sure it was brilliant, but have mostly heard it was brilliant because of all the messages in there, but then no one seems to care to explain it to idiots like me. Also the sound made it really hard for me to understand the lyrics tbh. (I mostly get the Drake stuff - I’m not that out of touch)

Yeah that’s fair.

A lot of the attention was on the Drake stuff, but the bigger message was a response to what society demands of black people - if you don’t want trouble and want to be accepted as part of America then stop being so, you know, black. That is the message of several of the songs used, but there were also lots of elements in the performance making the same point. Uncle Sam being an Uncle Tom getting worked up at Kendrick not playing his role properly, dancers representing the US flag, dance moves implying they lifted the country up on their backs. Even Serena’s appearance wasn’t just about dissing Drake, but she replicated the dance that saw her receive some of the most “how dare she” criticism of her career when she did it on Centre Court at Wimbledon after winning Olympic gold.

The whole thing was a statement that they are just as American as people criticizing them and don’t need to, and wont, conform to what the establishment (nativists) wants of them.

In an period where responses to Trump have been muted compared to last time, it was a startlingly in your face rejection of lots of the shit they speak about.

I think a lot of the weight of the performance was in Jackson’s Uncle Sam heckling (‘too loud, too reckless, too ghetto! Mr. Lamar, do you really know how to play the game?’) and the songs Kendrick chose in “response”.

Those videos of the General Manager sitting in his office with a bunch of yes men convincing themselves that no one will offer Barkley a contract because he’s too expensive are too funny.

Especially when you see the one guy just tearing his hair out saying “anyone who has the money will pay him” and getting ignored. They really thought they’d get him back on the cheap.

The Eagles have gone up in my estimation after their decision not to pay the traditional visit to the White House after their Super Bowl success.

Let’s not forget that Trump blocked the same franchise’s visit in 2018, so it’s great to see them get their own back.

Hopefully, this sets a precedent that other champions will follow while the orange one is president.
