The all-new NFL Thread

Why? Is this a football thing or an America thing?

An America thing. Doing the same with baseball, so of course the Jays are having a great season.

Surely Blue Jays get a pass from being from Canada.

I’ve dropped watching certain things but I’ve cheered on the blue states and Toronto even though I am a Yankees fan.

It is an American league in an American sport. I think for about a generation it is going to be necessary to minimize interaction with the US, for most of America’s erstwhile allies, but it is particularly acute for Canada. There is something fundamentally rotten or cancerous in America now, and their cultural content is toxic - sports are no exception.

We’re getting married next year and none of Mrs Limie’s Candian crew (her dad grew up around Hamilton) are coming. Its not an issue of principal, but they just know too many people who live around the border who have recently had something flagged in their history of crossings and ended up being detained. Even for a wedding isn’t worth the risk of being suddenly detained for several days without your meds.

It’s just an utterly unimaginable situation to have got here

Which makes it all the more amusing to see a Canadian side win

…congrats!

edit; actually, thats not how i meant that, but ill leave it there, its kinda funny in an accidental way…

What’s he smoking?

Ridiculous ending in Pittsburgh.

Rams @ Panthers.
Packers @ Bears.
Bills @ Jags.
49ers @ Eagles.
Chargers @ Pats.
Texans @ Steelers.

What the fuck

Is it really so unexpected? Genuine question, because I’m not deep in the trenches with the Bills (or NFL generally).

I’d say so. I guess when you make the play offs 7 years in a row or so without making the big game people will start asking what needs to change to take the next step, but no one thinks talent wise the bills are any better than this level to consider this an underachievement

When the Chiefs officially dropped out of playoff contention, there was a definite shift in mood locally. Embers of blind hope seemed to turn into flickers of expectation. I wonder if that hurt McDermott in the end.

Then again, reading the mood in deepest, darkest Buffalo over the last few hours, it’s mostly negative in response to his firing, but there is forming something of a division between the oldheads who are grateful that he made the team something like a contender and the whipper snappers who perhaps take that for granted.

Yeah it was 17 years without a play off game before this run. I think the stat is they are one of only 4 teams ever to have won a play game 6 years in a row

Watching the college final, IU v Miami. Close game, 4th quarter 24-21 IU leads, the whole of Indiana is going nuts over this.
