Oh definitely, but I do also appreciate the disipline involved in battling to a draw from a losing position which is just as entertaining to watch from a technical and skill perspective which is something that is getting lost in the current days fixation with high runs and shorter formats
A hard fought draw has its value. That means 4 complete innings with the teams scrapping all the way.
Rain effected draws don’t have value.
That depends on what conditions are like on the final day.
I remember a test years back between Aus and NZ that lost 1.5 days, and come the final day, the ball was moving around like the opening sesion on day 1, so the 2 kiwi batters had to work their arses off to prtect their wickets and see out the day.
If the final day is washed out, then yes, I do agree that weather influenced draws have little value
Yeah , i probably mean the same thing.
In this case , close to 3 days were washed out.
India batted at close to 8 runs an over to set a lead in the 2 remaining days. On a pitch which offered a fair bit to the bowlers.
I’d love to have more teams take risks like this. An Indian team in the past would just have cursed their luck and played for the inevitable draw.
This pitch is just dreadful, absolutely fuck all in it for the bowlers. Still, nice to see Root get another big hundred and pass Cook in the process. Brook battering Pakistan again as expected, four 100s in consecutive tests over there.
Glad England didn’t come in and fuck it up to be fair they have a habit.
They still have to bat a 2nd innings yet.
Should just go out and try to score 1000, not even Pakistan are capable of a third innings collapse on a road like this that could end in a result other than a draw.
Time that the home team gets punished for laying out roads like this.
Yes, the pitch is a road, but Root has scored runs in all conditions.
Fair play to the lad
Yeah it’s just a meh pitch anyhow
In the article; “Root has toured Australia on three previous occasions, including twice as captain, but has never won in any of the 14 Tests he has played there and is yet to make a hundred down under.”
I didn’t read the article which is why I didn’t reply to it.
My point is more of point deductions and fines to the home teams to ensure that there are sporting pitches.
A pitch where 400 runs are scored without breaking a sweat on day 3 doesn’t make for a good advertisement to test cricket which is increasingly becoming a restricted sport (with respect to the quality)
I agree. There should be some kind of pressure on host countries to provide competitive pitches.
More dumbing down in action.
Lots of runs = good cricket, apparently.
Only one team can win from here. If England go T20 either side of Tea, Pakistan will be (very) nervous.
Edit - maybe even either side of lunch…
It’s only Pakistan which subscribes to that formula. Outdated archaic form of cricket.
Root out!
454 partnership.
Brook 300.
