The Tennis Thread

Kyrgios needs to control his erratic behaviour. He is such a natural talent. He also needs a mentoring coach.

Congratulations to Djkokovic.

He has discussed his mental health issues before.

Netflix we’re doing a special on Kyrgios this tournament. The farce v Tsisipas and all other brat like behaviour will probably make it compelling. Oh and making the final will also have the producers salivating at the downloads. Fuckwits are interesting.

Serena Williams has just announced her retirement.

Farewell to one of the greats.

According to Serena Williams, she said she is “evolving away from tennis”. Is that a secret code for more involvement in Chelsea investment? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Shame she didn’t knock the bigot off the top of the major list.

Or weak era perhaps? All of the leading NextGen players have horrible technical flaws and their games are full of holes like Swiss cheese.

  1. Medvedev: no net game, weak forehand. Nadal was able to exploit these weaknesses fully to come back from being down 2-0 earlier this year.

  2. Zverev: 2nd serve, lack of aggression on the forehand side.

  3. Tsitsipas: horrible backhand, horrible slice especially for a one-hander. Before him, I have never seen a one-handed backhand player with a bad slice. Weak ROS as well.

  4. Rublev & Sinner: ball bashers with no variety, and no net game as well. Sinner is at least decent in attitude.

  5. Berretini: his backhand and BH return are just terrible, and his legs are too small for his upper body. However, he is one of the few NextGen players with an excellent forehand and excellent backhand slice. IMO he would have been better off with a one-handed BH.

  6. Shapovalov: this nutcase disappoints me the most. He has the talent and the weapon but just cannot put them together. Terrible mentality. Weak return of serve.

  7. FAA: weak mentality, backhand and ROS.

  8. Kyrgios: another talented nutcase. Thankfully he managed to reach a Slam final. Weak return and unstable forehand due to flawed mechanic.

  9. Cameron Norrie: wouldn’t have won a Master 30, 20, 10 or even 5 years ago.

  10. Casper Ruud: an ATP 250 vulture who somehow managed to reach a Slam final. He has good attitude, though.

Also weak mentality. Gets down on himself. He for me has the most tools to succeed if only he could get his mind sorted. Same issue with Kyrgios

@Thomas1195 quality analysis btw. Appreciate it!

Era may be weak but DJokovic’s top level in a 5 setter beats Rafa and Roger (well technically he never played peak Roger) more often than not. And serve velocities have only gone up. So he’d be top in any era. Plus he’s a physical freak!

Three of the best talents in Tennis all playing at roughly the same time was probably just one of those freak of things.

What’s your forecast for the United game?

Hopefully building up for a good hard Court performance at the US.

One you want the ref to win

Nevermind Novax.

That does seem ridiculous now. What’s the point of banning him. I was one of 6 that caught it recently after a lunchtime meal with friends. We calculated that we have had 21 vaccinations between us.

It was a first time for all of us.

There are now fairly broad exemptions to come in without a vaccine. About the only exception at this point are vaccine deniers (people who have no good reason for not having one other than they didnt want to). So with the change to the way the vaccines work against the newer variants it’s maybe not a particularly effective first order Public Health effect in terms of directly stopping chains of transmission , but arguably important second order effects. When you consider a big part of Public Health is messaging and signaling of correct behaviors (or at least is supposed to be) you cannot ignore those secondary effects.

Suddenly noticed that the court at the US open looked rather empty and realised there are no line judges :flushed:. When did that happen?

First major to trial it
