The Unreliable Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 1)

I actually wouldn’t be that averse to signing Giroud on a short term deal if the price was right. Bit like the Cavani deal at United, a stop gap that gives us time to get finances in order and strengthen other areas that are more pressing.

He’d give us something entirely different and a physical presence up top but he’s also very capable with his feet and certainly knows where the goal is.

I agree that it doesn’t have to be another Bobby (who is not used as a proper striker anyway, but he was one of the players Klopp said he admired when he looked at Liverpool’s squad, he probably immediately had an idea what to do with him). We also can’t go too much on the opposite side and abandon some core stylistical traits of a Klopp team. Abraham strikes me as humble enough to listen and learn, he could improve, yes. But I don’t see Klopp wanting him enough or Chelsea accepting enough to sell him to us. If that makes sense. I think he’s a bit too soft for us and we’ll probably look elsewhere to find a better deal.

Yes please. I think he’s brilliant, and shamefully treated by Chelsea.

Each time we go 4231 which seems to be what Klopp is moving us to, Bobby never plays no.9 he plays the no.10 role… So there is definitely scope for a proper no.9 to join us. Seems Bobbo is getting a final audition for a new role in the team, which sadly he appears to be failing.

Yeah, he had a brilliant season under Lampard but Roman and his always wanting new expensive toys striked as usual. Not sure on the price tag, but someone Klopp can definitely mould into a world class player.

He should be keen on a move, I mean how long would you want to be back up for Timo Werner of all people :smirk:

That’s a lot of money. We paid something similar for Jota who immediately challenged Mane, Salah, and Firmino. Tammy has got, so far, 30 goals in 78 top-flight games which I think is pretty similar to that of Jota.

While any players we buy do not have to be replicas of what we have now, Klopp demands the few same traits in his players: Hardworking, the ability to run and work in big spaces, intelligent to play within the system, humble to play around the team and not expecting the team to play around him and flexibility to not necessarily playing in a fixed role. So while we are not looking for the next Firmino, any player that comes in to potentially replace him have to have those traits.

This isn’t true for all of his signings with us, maybe about half. Certainly wasn’t true of meant CF he’s bought whilst here or most of them at Dortmund. I think Firmino being so successful from minute 1 has hidden the fact Klopp would certainly usually have this type of pure CF in his side somewhere.

Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Florian Neuhaus has his heart set on a move to Liverpool. Neuhaus wants to sign for Liverpool and the feeling is mutual. Liverpool are interested in Neuhaus and his release clause makes a deal much more appealing. [@cfbayern]

I mean of course if you are talking about signings like CB or GK, I think its a very specific role. But most of other signings further up the field had been asked to play left, right, centre when necessary. So I think he does not necessarily want a specialist in one fixed position.

We paid a bit more for Jota but pros and cons compared to that deal;

Pros for Jota; Bit more of a obviously technical and cultured style player whose playing style was a bit more of an evident good fit for how we were set up being similar to Mane and Salah.

Pros for Abraham; Already had a taste of the pressures at a big side, already been cast aside for latest shiny toy by one of the rich clubs when he’d done nothing wrong. Homegrown, after negotiations could be significantly less in price. Younger. Actually the fact he is so different from what we have is a pro as that’s what we are crying out for now.

That becomes important if Klopp would prefer smaller squads going forward as well. Lot of our current players are actually expected to perform multiple roles.

Honestly, not a big fan of it as it creates a ripple effect of multiple players playing out of position with say 2 or 3+ injuries. Also the standards gets impacted in some specialist and important positions in a Klopp side, like Gomez covering RB.

Ofcourse you would not expect to have a like for like cover at every given position given we are not City, but overdoing it can become an issue (without being biased by this season perspective as it’s an anomaly).

From a forward, I think some level of versatility will be expected similar to what Jota brings. Think Abraham will fit in that bracket though.

I think he is very unfortunate. I thought he has done pretty well under Lampard, 21 goals in these 2 seasons in a top 6 team, a youth that cost them nothing, and reversing the disgusting trend of Chelsea sandbagging players and loaning them out without ever a chance to make it…so I thought Chelsea is finally seeing the light. But with Lampard gone, I think his chance to be a regular is gone too, with Werner probably preferred and I am sure Tuchel is going to sign someone this summer too. For a good price, I think he is a good option.

I’m not against signing Tammy. If we do sign him, or someone similar, I see Klopp going for 4231 on a regular basis, or at least on a more frequent basis. Any three of our present four can be the three behind Tammy while we can always revert back to 433 with our present attackers.

My point is, if we sign him for the mentioned price; he has to be more than an impact sub or a rotation option.

When we signed Jota we expected him to be exactly the same. An expensive impact sub / fourth choice attacker to our Front3.

Abraham would also replace the last thing we’re keeping Origi around for - a big lad who can help relieve pressure and hold the ball up.

But also with a view of possibly/hopefully replacing someone in the near future, if not immediately if it happens (which it did, to a certain extent)…

He wasn’t signed only for the 20/21 season. First signs are good, hopefully he proves he could takeover from one of the 3 for a side that needs/wants to compete and win. That’s another thing.

Tammy Abraham will find it even more difficult to get minutes now with Tuchel playing Havertz at CF.

He was out for over a month with an ankle injury but since returning early April, in the 3 league matches since returning he’s been on the bench, not in the squad at all, and brought on as a sub for less than 5 minutes. And altho he was included in the 18, he hasn’t played in any of the 3 CL matches in April.

Abraham is an interesting one. I don’t know how much more he has in him than he’s already shown, but he’d need to grow as a player considerably to be worth the money it would undoubtedly take to prise him from Chelsea. But he is the sort of player that if we were genuinely in for him, the trust Edwards and co have earned would have me excited for what they think he’d be able to do here.

Regarding the work rate issue, I think how hard Bobby works has warped the view of many fans of what it takes to play striker in a team that is designed to press. Yes everyone has to work hard, but that doesn’t mean tearing around the pitch like a lunatic. As a striker it’s more a case of positioning yourself well to cut off the obvious passes to instead direct them to play into the areas the rest of your team is waiting to press them in.

Save Tammy!!!

Let’s do this. Chelsea might want £40m but I reckon Edwards can knock them down to £20m if he does his ‘look into the eyes, not around the eyes, into the eyes, 3, 2, 1, and you’r under my spell’ thing.
