The Unreliable Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 1)

I’ve only seen him the once too and thought he was shit.

Decent player but £50 million is the most ridiculous thing I’ve heard since Gene Simmons last opened his gob.

TBF when there’s no actual club football for the LFC correspondent to discuss, we give him fuck all else to work with.

Not even a sexy overseas pre season tournament junket this year either.

Popped in here to see McGinn and £50m being cited :cold_sweat:

When not much is being leaked (sign of a club working well), they have to invent.

In fairness I think this is a case of Chinese whispers.

Klopp: That McGinn lad runs a lot, doesn’t he?
Media: Klopp wants McGinn!
Villa: Hands off, we won’t let him go for under £50m
Media: Klopp set to offer £50m for McGinn!
Klopp: WTF?

McGinn, Mcdonalds started selling alcohol?

But seriously, he does seem like a good player for our CM system. At 26, good age to bring in too. Not too different from Gini when he came. Maybe a 20m bid or thereabouts is fair but don’t think Villa will let him go for that. So…I guess…no go.

and it goes on, and on, and on

Because it is really worth discussing…
If City land Kane, if Real or Chelsea land Haaland, if Utd land Sancho…where does Mbappe go.
I know this is a real long shot, I know its pie in the sky, I know @rab will bristle reading this…

But fuck it, its unreliable, unrealistic and all but it is also romantic, aspirational and for a few moments keeps me happy.

If Mbappe leaves on a free, he is pretty much nailed on for Real Madrid. I don’t think the signing of Kane, Sancho or Haaland prevent any of those teams having space to sign him as he can play in a different position to all of them. I think they could all find a way of meeting his wage demands.

Def need a central midfielder, in spite of what the media say about the club’s transfer priorities. We’ve lost Gini and the Minamino experiment appears to have failed, plus I expect Hendo to play - at most - half the games next season, and Keita will be, well, Keita - if he’s still here that is. We are def short in midfield.

Last season we brought in Thiago as Gini’s replacement. We also added Jones who effectively replaced Lallana (perhaps playing more frequently than he did?). Hendo and Fabinho are very unlikely to be called upon to play CB, so all should contribute to more games in midfield this year.

Saying that, depending on outgoings I wouldn’t be surprised to see another midfielder come in.

I don’t see Dortmund losing Sancho and Haaland in the same summer

Yeah we don’t need a CM because we are losing Gini we need one because we can’t rely on Ox and Keita and, even when fit, Klopp has started to show reluctance to use them. Due to those two points plus the fact both have 2 years on their deals and are at extend (both already get paid too much for what they contribute) or move on time I think they both need selling to fund a new CM.

Hey, I’m there with you. As long as the possibility is there, as long as nothing is decided, then why not play with the idea.

I had completely forgotten about Ox, which says a lot for his ongoing availability, or lack of same to be more accurate. As things stand, the only CMs we have who have a decent fitness record are Fab and Jones, the latter of which is still learning his trade.

Last season we lost the midfield in several (many?) games: Was this the result of never having a settled midfield setup because we had to chop and change formation through the absence of many injured key players? I think the answer is, probably. Having to reposition our most reliable midfielder, Fabinho, to the backline obviously didn’t help either.

In looking at transfer targets, the club should first and foremost look at their fitness records. Recruiting players with ‘spotty’ fitness records would be like throwing away money. Half the time they’d be on the treatment table. God knows we’ve wasted a shed load of cash on these types in the past!

At the same time I wouldn’t be surprised if he came to Liverpool on a four year deal and then went to Madrid on a free, at the age of 26.
