One thing that has changed in recent years is that now we are linked with only good (sometimes even great) players.
Saul isnât actually getting a run at AM and didnât make the Spanish team. Lots of money for not a great gain.
Or a good opportunity to pick up an excellent player whoâs suffered a dip in form.
Me waiting for a photo of someone signing a contractâŠ
must mean the target is still in tournament.
Messi anyone?
Second thought, nah, heâs past it, too old and has no resale value! Pass I thinkâŠ
English then?
Could it be the stacked Shaw?
Joking aside, Phillips may be interesting but I would imagine itâd take a princely sum to get him.
We need players who enhance us. Not long term projects. Shakira is one who I think wore that tag. Origi another. 30+ million on a 26 year old project could have offered our out of contract midfielder more money.
Oh yes Shakira is lovely
If Camavinga is really being sold for as little as ÂŁ30m and we arenât all over that quietly, behind the scenes, when we need a CM Iâd despair! Kid can be an extremely special talent. Be like not going for an available Trent after his second full season when you need a RB.
If he goes to Utd, letâs wait and see what the wage is. Being Utd, I can see them giving him something absurd.
Yet again there seems to be two universally accepted myths that;
1 all clubs have to pay players the same so a player accepting a move to club A for wage X then club B would need to match or better that wage. Most of our recent signings have accepted less to play for us under Klopp challenging for things than theyâve been offered elsewhere.
2 That we somehow donât pay a competitive wage. Itâs perhaps hidden due to the clauses meaning the player has to be playing and the team doing well but when the team does well we have one of the highest wage bills. We could certainly offer enough to tempt a teenager on a mid French league contract to come.
I donât think anyone believes we donât pay competitive wages but there is a heavy degree of incentives involved that not every player is going to be up for if they can get significantly more guaranteed elsewhere.
One thing that isnât a myth is that we have the second highest wage bill and some big players lined up for renewals so no matter what, wages will be a big factor for the club.
Would love the kid here though, got the makings of a superstar and if that fee is anything close to true, which I highly doubt, then United wonât be getting a clean run at him.
Camavinga has the same agent as Konaté. Could that be a good omen?
But thatâs the point right there isnât it? Most players arenât wired that way. Wage is probably a big factor in their next move. Its great that we managed to get some elite level players in that category (VVD) but we also had some that werenât wired that way (Gini).
You or I donât know if Camavinga has been approached by LFC. Just as we dont know if Camavinga is the type of player that would choose United over us due to wage. Given he was born in a refugee camp and therefore he has probably had a good number of struggles in his life I will concede that massive wages probably arenât hugely important to him.
The problem though is that you go the other way. You take an undoubted truth - that some players would sooner come to LFC on a lower wage - and leap to the conclusion that this applies to everyone. Youâre not taking account of the players that weâve swerved because their wage or attitude hasnât been right.
The only thing we know is that we havenât got a fucking clue. We donât know whatâs going on.
I have no idea how good he is as I havenât even watched his highlights on YouTube but isnât it possible that for whatever reason Edwards and Klopp arenât interested?
And in any case, since we canât buy every single talented player in the world, worrying about what other teams are doing is pointless; all that we can hope is that we get our moves right.
Canât we also hope that they get theirs wrong? Please?
He was going to PSG for 100m only a few weeks ago, now 30m
Theyâd be stupid to sell him that cheap even with only a year on his contract.
