The Unreliable Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 1)

IMPOSSIBLE!!! :astonished:

Bang on. There are loads of good players. We canā€™t sign them all. We have to be at peace that other teams will sign good players.

Every year, without fail, there is a player or two who accumulate so much hype they end up as once in a generation talents that we absolutely have to sign them at all costs even if it destroys the wages, and completely unbalanced the whole squad.

World beaters like Lemar and Dembele who weā€™ve spent every day regretting that we didnā€™t sign them?

It would be nice to know that we tried though wouldnā€™t it?

Speak for yourself, ok I liked Lemar but never had him on a pedestal like Mbappe or Camavinga, Dembele was a joke and still is (Klopp might have replied to journalists but surely he was laughing, no?).

I did have Fabinho as my prefered target and when that surprise came through was over joyed.

Whatā€™s all the tweets about Sanchez. Has that rumour got legs.

Iā€™ve read we are interested, he certainly fits a profile if we were replacing Giniā€¦ I just donā€™t think weā€™d agree heā€™s worth Ā£200k a week at 18. For that level of wages Iā€™m sure weā€™d expect Salah, Alisson, Van Dijk levels immediately and potential. Whereas I think he is more potential.

You are 100% right though the obsession with other teams and what they do is bizzare.

When did I do that? I just donā€™t take a speculative piece of possible information (United may offer him a high guaranteed wage, if the rumours of an approach are even true) and then ASSUME that this is definitely an issue for us. And I explained in my last post why (if true) it still doesnā€™t necessarily mean it will definitely be an issue for us!

Sancho is that player, but at Ā£350k a week I am well behind the club in not signing him, despite thinking heā€™d be great here and will be for them sadly.

Just wondering aloud. I would argue that Soumare played a bigger part in midfield for Lille in their title winnning season and yet he went to Leicester for rumouredly 23mil. Why would we allow ourselves to pay more for Sanches if we really do indeed end up paying 30mil for him. Just wondering aloud as that might seem that Lille should be more than willing to take a lower price for their key players. Their title winning keeper went to Milan for just 10mil for example. Not sure of the contract situation and length they were left with in Lille of course but would Mikey allow ourselves to pay so much?

Your opinion (based on what?)

Heā€™s Lilles star player (for them and the footballing world).

Yep, they are in dire straights yet if they have already sold players then perhaps they are starting to see light at the end of the tunnel. If they sell their ā€˜lesserā€™ players and have enough money to respect their contractual engagements to their key players then I would guess they would try to keep their key players (Itā€™s difficult to start from scratch).

I mentionned before that the situation at Lille was difficult (they at least threatened to not respect bonus payments to players when the players refused to take a wage cut). Despite all this the group kept their determination to win the league. There is no surprise that there is an exodus from Lille the question is when will it stop?

Has Sanches really improved that much? I dont watch French football. He was awful for Swansea and didnt do that well at his next club. Just hope we arent signing Diouf the 2nd after a few decent games at a tournament.

I would base on the fact that Soumare played 60% more in terms of minutes in the league and overall, and in 32 games vs Sanches 23 games, for whatever reason, definitely contributing more as a the key player in midfield for them. Not to say Sanches is not important but if placed side by side, by stats, thats my argument that Soumare played a bigger part. The only thing going for Sanches would be he does have a more prominent profile compared to Soumare having played for a number of big clubs and is known to us. I would welcome Sanches but my post is more of wondering aloud would we allow ourselves to pay more than Leicester for Soumare, all things equal, in terms of payment terms or their contract situation.

Phillips played more than VvD strange stance.

Donā€™t forget Lille got Soumare on his 1st professional contract (so no transfer fee). Lille might have had to sell now due to his contract (1 year left)
Sanches cost what 18Mā‚¬.
Personally I donā€™t think Sanches is a priority for us. I think thereā€™s others who are ā€˜higher up the listā€™. As I stated contract and wages put Sanches as a more important player (whether heā€™s better or not doesnā€™t really come into it as their roles are different). I.e Lille might be looking to make a decent profit considering that his contract runs to a later date.
Basically very different situations.

Sanches linked again via Lā€™Equipe, apparently Lille ready to sell. Heā€™s also posted a cryptic instagram post of him sat on a private Jet.

Heā€™s on the move somewhere.

I think he made a bad career move going to Bayern when he did. He was quickly moved on as he couldnā€™t get into the team and adapt, and itā€™s likely that was a tough period for him - too big a club to early, followed by moving to low level clubs with him wondering if his career aspirations were unachievable. He definitely has the attributes to be very good, and if Klopp and co think they can improve him, that will do for me if he joins. Certainly wouldnā€™t be as exciting a signing as some of the names linked, but weā€™ve seen players come in during the last few years that had us raising eyebrows, and theyā€™ve turned out to be really really good.

Edit: Heā€™s not at Rennes - cheers @Flobs

Thatā€™s nice of them, what do Lille feel about that? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Is Sanches actually a star for Lille? He only played 1200 minutes in the league, starting just 14 games, and at least according to transfermarkt he was shifted out onto the right of midfield by the end of the season.

I donā€™t watch French football so Iā€™m not claiming to to understand his situation but it does feel like he has two good games in an international tournament every two years and then sweet FA for his club sides in between that.

He commandes their highest wage, which is probably why they are willing to sell.
Highest wage tends to be important asset (not necessarily being the best during a particular season). Am I making sense or are we going to go over this again?

It also indicates he was injured for half the season (good reason to stay well clear imo).

Farmers league - theyre all the same haha

And base on that, our on field results, Philips has contributed more than VVD in the last season, would not that be true?
