The Unreliable Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 1)

Things might change but Klopp having Matip signed a new 5 year contract last year means despite the known injury problems, Klopp still want him around in the long term. Unless that mindset has changed, I do not see an investment on a CB now unless like Thiago, a deal so good we cannot resist.

From The Athletic, info from ā€œsenior club sourceā€:

  • no more signings before deadline (ie no Kabak)
  • another attacker looked at before signing Jota was Jonathan David
  • Ox is staying

Kabak confirmed then :joy:

I bin Ox and Matip off. Just never available.

Welcome to the nut house, patsfan.

Everyone in here is a degenerate. Do not listen to a single word.

The Mirror just claimed Crystal Palace is leading the way atm for Brewster. 20mil. Interesting if true, given that they have Zaha, Townsend, Jordan Ayew and the young Eze for attacking roles. I mean Rhian could fit in well there. The only irony here would be him playing under Woy lol

To be honest, I didnā€™t see any reliable enough source over Kabak this summer, so itā€™s no surprise that thereā€™s nothing in it. Been a while and nobody of the big ones confirmed it.

You have four centre halves for the occasions where a couple are injured. You donā€™t keep six on the books to always have four to pick from.

VVD, Gomez, Matip, Fabinho, with Billy the kid and Sepp as emergency options is fine. If another one comes in then Matip would have to go.

Agree with your points but Iā€™m starting to think this needs to happen now. By next summer at the latest. Like Matip and Gomez but think we can only afford to have one in our squad (even though I know Gomez ā€œisnā€™t injury proneā€ he just gets injured sometimes). And you have to pick the home grown, club developed, younger player there as thereā€™s not much between them ability wise.

I think we can easily wait until January for Kabak. Just 3 months until.

If we want to go ā€˜biggerā€™ and can wait until next Summer Upamecano can then leave for around ā‚¬50m.

Having 4 CHā€™s would imply that JK sees sees Fab as his 4th choice CB rather than a DM who can fill in if required.
JK said he is perfectly comfortable with Fab as a 4th choice, and he has done a great job when called upon, but that could be a smoke screen for a potential transfer.
Iā€™m not arsed either way, I just donā€™t want us to be caught short. I have zero faith in Matip to be available for more than a third of the season, as much as I hope he is and rate him very highly.

If there are two consistent with me through my whole Liverpool supporting life, itā€™s wanting to bomb out all our Centre Backs and play midfielders there :joy:

Iā€™d have moved on Lovren and Matip last season. Just not available enough.

I think it is unlikely to be a smokescreen. That would require some other catalyst (injuries to Gomez and Matip to be much more severe than we have been led to believe for example).

My worry is, with Matip being so injury prone you are opening yourself up to spending half the season with Fabinho as third choice CB rather than 4th.

You look at an away game in the CL or against someone like City and you probably want Fabinho starting in midfield. If that comes at a time when Matip is invariably injured, the likelihood is you then have a 17 year old on the bench as cover. Yes, itā€™s unlikely weā€™d bring him on unless something drastically went wrong but all it takes is another injury or suspension at a time when Matip is out and weā€™re very very short all of a sudden.

If Matipā€™s fitness wasnā€™t such an issue I think itā€™d be fine. As it is, I think itā€™s unnecessarily risky to go into the season as is.

The purpose of bringing Thiago in meant Fabinho is now considered an optional CB. He showed he is more than capable there. Better than most CBā€™s in the league tbh. In fact that was the best iā€™ve seen him play in ages iā€™d be inclined to leave him there unless Thiago and Hendo are not available in MF. Yes he would probably be even better in midfield but with our embarrassment of riches there now his absence in MF is not felt as heavily as it might have been last year. The last 2 times iā€™ve seen him play CB he kept Bayern & Lewandowski to a clean sheet now Timo Werner in his back pocket (another clean sheet). Canā€™t ask for much more than that.

Palace of all clubs.

The way they play, they still have like about 8 strikers at the club + Saint Zaha, who even when heā€™s not up top, heā€™s basically a striker, the way he plays.

Weird.

Palace have quietly built a nice attack already, didnā€™t quite realise it until that United game. If Woy players Brewster with the likes of Zaha, Eze, Schlupp, Townsend he should get some chances.

Ayew and Batshuayi are more of a presence though and I doubt itā€™d take much for Roy to go back to one of those two at centre forward.

I think thatā€™s a reasonable deal for everyone. Brewster doesnā€™t get the game time he needs with us, and our style of play isnā€™t going to change dramatically in the near future. However, a couple of years further down the line with some competitive football under his belt then, who knows? Hopefully itā€™s not just a buy-back clause :rage: and is a combination of sell-on %, matching clause, right of first refusal.

Do we need another forward option or is Jota enough? Iā€™m not even counting Origi.

If we keep doing shrewd business like this I think itā€™s almost certain we bring in another CB and/or improve on Adrian with a better no.2 goalkeeper.

Well, after Sakho and Benteke, Palace are due a good signing from Liverpool. I just wish they signed Origi, he looks to be tailor-made for a side like them or Watford. James Pearce, I think, said that he would be surprised if both Origi and Brewster left but I still donā€™t see where Origi fits into this side. I like the big man but I think that this side is evolving and leaving him without a role to play.
