The Unreliable Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 1)

Like who? Being realistic though.

As a 5th choice forward I doubt we’re getting any better.

Much rather Bowen than Malen.

West Ham fans reckon £45m

So he is a diver … :sunglasses:

As its Pearce if the others don’t come out saying it today its not happening. If they do he signs before the weekend.

Jota had 3 seasons in PL and was banging in goals and assists when we signed him

Jota regularly had world class standard games and short runs for Wolves but then he’d have runs of anonymous games. It was only ever a consistency issue for Jota.

Will trust Klopp if it happens but it is hard to get excited about Bowen. Seems a decent player but not at the level of the likes of Raphinha who surely wouldn’t cost that much more?

Jota had 7 goals and 1 assist in the PL 19/20.
Jota had 9 goals and 5 assists in the PL in 18/19.

Bowen had 8 goals and 5 assists in PL 20/21.

Seems a fair comparison to me.

Rare we go for a player that hasn’t spent at least two seasons at current club.

Edit; Also beware of players “performing well” in teams doing better than expected.

I guess it depends who’s available for a similar fee.

Raphinha or Neto might cost in the region of the £45m that’s been mentioned for Bowen? I’d prefer either of them. Different type of player but Aouar?

I think the story was that the season before he was responsible for more chances created than any other player. It was less a measure of quality though, but more one of how limited Villa and Downing were (just give Downing the ball and let him cross it).

While he accomplished it in a completely different way, there were similar stats about Hendo, which explains the decision to buy him and put on the outside of the midfield.

It was just a case of the follies of first generation data analysis driving decision making. We’ve definitely come a long way since then.

Yep with Downing there was no appreciation for whether or not the chances created were any good (they were largely hit and hope crosses with no imagination) or if they would fit our playing style and how opposition sets up different against us than Villa.

With Henderson it was even worse, they saw he could/had played RM and CM and had a certain level of chance creation so bought him for RM. Ignoring the fact that passing and chance creation all came from when he played Central and also ignoring we needed more of a right winger than a wide midfielder anyway.

And for half a second, I missed the old, old days of Macedonian Red…

I know - I was expecting a list of 40, all cheaper, better, and easily available if not for the club’s incompetence.

Haven’t they been linked with some high profile players like Sterling too?

Think John was right. What are they smoking at the Emirates!!?

It does seem that the general preference of the club is to sell Origi and Shaquiri to replace them with a younger option who has a chance to challenge the front 3 like Jota, but it also seems Klopp won’t be too upset to keep one or both for another year.

I’d be more excited b Watkins from Aston Villa, than Bowen but those rumors seem to have died down. Would Bowen meet the homegrown requirements? It seems that may be a consideration

Isn’t Neto recovering from a serious injury? If he weren’t I think he could have been a natural target this summer. Raphinha for sure, I like him. But I don’t know anything about Bowen so I don’t know what type of player he is compared to those two.

Aouar feels more midfieldy to me, don’t think we’d play him in attack…?

True, but it might free up someone like Ox to play more in attack, and/or give us different formation options
