The Unreliable Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 1)

Bailey is as thick as two short planks.

Swerve.

Club developed we still have Kelleher, Gomez, Alexander-Arnold, Woodburn, Wilson and Ojo. Probably only have 3 of then by next season so be limited to maximum of 24 in Europe not an issue in the league/cups.

Home grown we still have Phillips, Davies, Henderson, Milner and Ox so depends if any of them leave. Could still have a full squad size available to us domestically without buying any home grown players but unlikely to have a full squad size available to us in Europe though.

Doubt it’s much of a problem with Klopp though. Think last season may be the only one he maxxed out on maximum available squad size although haven’t checked and probably wrong.

The main reason I want it to happen. Bowen and Bissouma should see a few people off.

Curtis Jones would then count the season after. I’m not bothered about filling all the senior spaces possible in the CL squads. Teams hardly ever fill all 25.

Especially with Klopp liking a smaller playing group.

I have to confess I’ve never heard of Toney. I’d personally rather see Shaq and Div leave for new blood, but there has to be a market and an option.

Think most of the rumors floating are agents trying to create interest or leverage for contracts and other deals

I certainly understand that - but as a few have pointed out it may also be hard to get someone with the talent to command that sort of fee to come in as likely 5th choice forward.

Even with the promise of 1 or 2 of the front 3 leaving in a year or two.

Was bought by Peterborogh in 2018 from Newcastle. 2019/20 League 1 top scorer with 24 goals then went to Brentford to replace Ollie Watkins in 2020 and ripped the Championship a new one scoring 31 in 45 games.

Many say he was the key to Brentford getting promoted, so will be very interesting to see if he steps up again like he did last season.

I think he’ll end up being a yoyo striker. Great in the lower leagues, struggles in the PL. He’s 25 now too. Obviously I could be miles wrong. Thought the same of Vardy and he did it late in his career

His early days look pretty poor.

But a goal in 2 striker for 3 seasons on the trott hint he might be another Vardy and be a late bloomer

Ivan Toney should change his first name to Luca and then maybe he’d worth a punt.

I wonder how many Origi would get in a Championship team… It amuses me how people see someone who’s barely even a year younger than him as some up-and-coming talent worth £45m whereas he’s washed up and should be sold immediately.

It’s really fascinating how narrative influences the perception of a player so much.

Interesting comments by Simeone re Saul

What did he say?

While I often worry about the hype put on a player by social media fans. Which can destroy a CL winner, scorer of some real winners. Throw him on a heap for the new shiny bright thing. However my belief is if Klopp wants him then he should get him. Lamp and table, like Rafa said.

"I have spoken with him and we cannot put aside the rumours and what is talked about.

If you stay, you work as you have always done and if you leave, the door will be open in the best way

We have been together for eight years, I think we gave him everything we had as a coach and he as a footballer

If he has to leave, a big hug, we wish him the best and continue being friends, as always. Either to Barcelona or elsewhere.

Last season he spoke with the club, with us about his needs and what he spoke about the option of having a place on the field where he feels more important

And I consider that Saúl became Saúl by playing everywhere. He or many of those around him see it as something negative.

He is very important for Atletico because he can play as a full-back, right-wing, midfielder.

He gives us a lot of situations to be able to count on him.

Even without having a season at his best, we can count on him.

He is a player who in that version and playing how the coach needs, performs very well."

Thanks @rupzzz.

Clearly there was more going on behind the scenes last season than we know about but still relatively classy from Simeone.
