The Unreliable Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 1)

I would also be surprised if we went for a midfielder. The midfield is stacked if we retain everyone, and the defense stays relatively healthy.

On the face of it we have a decent squad and depth so may we are OK.
Then looking at the injuries last season and the time some players were out and apparent proneness to injury, particularly in the midfield I would like to see another player there, but it will be the right one or no one,I suspect.
Some injury concerns at CB,namely Matip and Gomez, but we are probably OK with Konate arriving.

That isnā€™t necessarily true. Klopp favouring Gini could just mean he deserves a starting position just a little bit more. Doesnā€™t mean 2nd, or 3rd or 4th best midfielders (Keita, Jones, Ox)are a million miles behind.

I agree Shaq really isnā€™t a midfielder. We donā€™t really do attacking midfielders.

It may just be that Giniā€™s replacement really was last season (Thiago), and that Keita, Hendo, Thiago, Fab, Ox, Milner and Jones is what weā€™ll go with, with the occasional double pivot game and Bobby deeper.

Gonna be hard shifting ox and Keita for decent money.

I thought I read somewhere that we are in dire straights for homegrown players and subsequently our prospective signings could be English.

I would say seven of that group are susceptible to injuries. Jones is the only one who stays relatively injury free. Weā€™ve just lost Gini, who was never injured and he needs replacing.
The decision not to replace Lovren last season was proven to be wrong and probably cost us the league. I canā€™t believe weā€™re about to make the same mistake again, by not bringing in a replacement for Gini.

By his own admission Gini was struggling to get on the pitch all the time last season and others in midfield and attack could have been rested more if Ox was someone Klopp wanted to try and get on the pitch.

Donā€™t think we need decent money but theyā€™re both high earners and itā€™s hard to justify adding a CM to the existing group with large numbers already.

Not really a problem, if donā€™t list them all you just end up with a smaller squad available to use and Klopp likes smaller squads but we have Kelleher, Gomez, Phillips, Davies, Alexander-Arnold, Henderson, Milner, Ox and Ojo so far although some expected to leave.

Think we Fans are panicking too much. Of course there will be injuries again but not like last season which was kind of a freak season.

Hendo and Fabinho wonā€™t be needed at CB this time.

If thing go ā€šnormalā€™ two or even three of Hendo, Fabinho and Thiago will play most games. Jones and Milner to be used for rotation.

Still expecting Keita to have some injuries but we have enough bodies to manage his games.

Think there will also be games where Klopp starts a Front4 which means just two CMs starting.

Yeah. I am also in the camp that we need another midfielder even if we are having 8 of them. I wouldnā€™t mind if we replace one of them to get someone who isnā€™t injury prone, but with the current 8 it is scary.

  • Gini as highlighted missed the least of our games
  • The others expected to share the minutes he played are injury prone and considering previous few seasons as well (and not just the freak last season), Ox and Keita will miss games. We thought Sturridge, Lallana, etc. might come through, but they were consistently injured and I do not see any reason why Ox and Keita would suddenly not miss games
  • Another important factor is our midfielders are supposed to be the covers for both the defense and attack. Ox and Shaq to rotate with the front four for example, Hendo and Fab in the back four. Matip and Gomez are injury prone, VVD is returning from injury and thereā€™s every chance we might again end up playing the likes of Fab back there. So, having an extra player in mid wouldnā€™t hurt us.

I still think going into last season with 3 CBs seemed an okay risk when the season started, but looked a wrong decision only in hindsight since every possible freak thing aligned to make that gamble wrong. But now knowing the state of our players, fitness, players returning from injuries, etc. I think we should be looking to mitigate such a risk that can derail our season again, atleast to some extend.

Or because every time he came on the pitch he spent his 15 mins running into walls and giving the ball away

ā€¦which would be the reason why Klopp didnā€™t want to use him or trust him.

I really expect us to replace Giniā€™s departure, but at the end of the day, itā€™s all down to Klopp. If he sees in pre-season that Jones has progressed physically and tactically and is ready to take the mantle, that Milner has still his legs going like when he was 25, and that Keita is still up and running after those 75 minutes of playing football, he might think that we have a deep enough squad.

Iā€™d be surprised, because Iā€™m not expecting Keita to stay fit a very long time, nor Milner to still be able to play an important role in midfield, but itā€™s not out of the question indeed that we stay put with what we have. Klopp can be trusted to make the right call on this I think. Last season was an absolute horror-show in terms of injuries, and chances are that such an unfortunate chain of events wonā€™t repeat itself again. (knock wood! :crossed_fingers:t2:)

This really is being understated on here. The lack of a preseason break was a killer last season. It wasnt just us. City took 8 points from 5 games at the start of last season with a decent number of their stars absent. COVID fucked everyone really. Not fucked equally, but no-one had a great time of it.

Could we have a number of injuries to one position again? Sure. But finally with a preseason break after 24 months at least soft tissue injuries will be less likely, and we just have to pray on avoiding impact injuries. Perhaps playing a second string lineup against the bitters might work.

Neil Jones reckons Shaq might be off soon which will be very interesting. Donā€™t think weā€™ll consider bringing in a new forward while Him and Origi are still here.

If I knew how to format it properly Iā€™d have put the tweet in the twitter thread. Ha

Hopefully not. Italian clubs rarely make good offers financially.

I am getting fucked at work like I have never been fucked before. It is so grim.

Someone, for the love of God, post a pic of us tracking a plane or a white van or something. I donā€™t care if itā€™s Peter Crouch on a fucking Segway zooming up the M6ā€¦

Give me some goddamn gossipā€¦I need it.

He came close to moving to Italy last year. I imagine the interest has remained.
