The Unreliable Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 1)

I guess that’s better than playing in Championship, and lifting all the trophies we’re gonna get will keep him happy

I just don’t know about Sarr. He doesn’t put up awe inspiring numbers, maybe he can turn out to be like Jota and he can hit the heights but currently not showing consistency which Klopp will sort out with him? But currently I’d be wondering why would we make a mega money signing with Sarr when he’s 5 years older than Elliott and despite being at a far better club last year Sarr had a goal or assist every 150 minutes which was only a tiny bit better than Elliotts goal or assist every 153 minutes. Now maybe there is room for both and Klopp will give one of his 3 CMs a more attacking role? Elliott and Jones being able to play that role whilst Sarr and Jota back up Salah and Mane. But then 3 of our 4 wide attackers would go the AFCON for a bit mid season.

Sarr’s right footed mate and his best position is on the right. He did play CF for Watford for a bit last season but the consensus seems to be that he was nowhere near as good as he was on the right.

We won’t buy Saul, we won’t even inquire about him. Ignore the click bait.

13 goals and 4 assists last year. If he could replicate that in PL we’d take it

As a starter week in week out, would he be that here?

Not for mega money, but if Edwards could work some magic could be worth a punt

Watford as a team posted poor numbers because they were very defensive for a lot of the season.

They still gained automatic promotion though, and in the main that was due to Sarr. That’s more important that a simple look at goals and assists. Not to mention the fact he’s a player who provides width and stretches sides, he’s not a goal poaching wide player like Salah. Having a different style of wide forward would be nice actually. He’s also well known for his work rate and defensive side to his game.

I imagine that would be the case almost regardless of who we’d get as the fifth guy. There would always be four players Klopp would prefer having on the pitch ahead of him. Kind of a simplistic way of looking at it perhaps, but kind of true as well I believe.

A bit easier for him if he can play on the left as well. But only a bit.

I’m not fretting. There is a long way to go in the window and the suggestion is we will move for a CM so I’m pretty comfortable. I’ll be disappointed if we don’t get another one in though. I was also disappointed we didn’t get another centre back last year and we saw how that worked out. But equally I thought it was a terrible idea not getting a left back and letting Milner play there for a year but that one turned out alright.

Only time will tell.

I hadnt realised Watford where back in the PL. Given the price on Sarr when they were relegated was a bit too much for Edward’s taste, I would think this would make it more difficult to prise him away from them now…

For forwards there is an age below which I think that not only can you look past productivity, but you’d be well served to do so. For a lot of attackers, end product is a learned skill and so I’d rather a kid with 10 goals but who gave every FB absolute nightmares, than someone who looked less threatening but scored more. Think the Mane version at Southampton. Sarr is right around the age at which we signed Mane so think he’s right on that cusp of not being able to get by on simply looking threatening anymore.

Out of Sarr or Bowen I think I’d favour Sarr more. Bowen more of a scrapper, Sarr I see as being a bit more direct and more of a goal threat.

We are nowhere near that in midfield though. Klopp backed himself into a corner naming Fabs as 4th choice CB as well as 1st choice DM. We can debate the ins and outs of that and have done. I also suppose the reason was the Thiago deal being the important business at the time which if so put us in a horrible situation after some horrible tackles. I think that this ‘gamble’ could pay off in the future though.

I would most definitely like to see a ‘real’ DM come in (something I have been banging on about for years now, since Lucas left). I still think we need to ‘offload’ a few more 1st though just for the finances but we’re getting there.

I trust Edwards and Klopp, but personally I wouldn’t be looking to take on another player in the forward line guaranteed to disappear for a month in January every two years. That would be Salah, Mane, Sarr (and Keita) going to the AFCON every year. I think it’s too much.

I think that’s probably the position we are most covered in, to be honest. Fab is world class. Hendo not far behind. Milner, Thiago, and Keita can all be OK there.

I honestly haven’t seen enough of either. But I do remember that one game where Sarr destroyed us. If that is anything like what he can bring to the table, he can be what we’ve spent the last 3-4 years hoping Origi would be.

Sarr blatant decoy for the UK journalists whilst Edwards jets in Saul, Neuhaus, Caleta-Car, Mbappé, Martinez, and Chiesa, with Lamptey bundled up to our London office.

Have I missed anyone?

I heard on the grapevine that Sarr agreed with Watford that he could move on for a certain fee (that I don’t know) if he stayed on and Watford got promotion. Just gossip though, nothing I’d pin my hat on.

It’s obvious we like players whose name has SA in it like Salah, Sadio… And now we are linked to Saul, Sarr!!!. So trust me we are going to buy Sammy Ameobi
