The Unreliable Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 1)

It’s a good conversation, thanks. I will try to give an explanation on how I think we cover Gini’s minutes, even with the existing group, no problem:

3900 - amount of minutes Gini played last season, all comps.
2010 - amount of mins Fabinho played last season at centre back
750 - amount of minutes Henderson played last season at centre back

Will we need Fabinho and Henderson to play in central defense next season? Highly unlikely, given the depth we now have at the back.

So we aren’t looking to ‘replace’ the 3900 midfield minutes Gini played. We are looking to ‘replace’ about 1100.

This is only about 12 games.

That’s 12 games above and beyond what they gave in midfield last season, spread between Thiago, Henderson, Fabinho, Ox, Naby, Curtis and Millie.

Could they do more than last season, to cover the games?

Yes. Easily. My personal viewpoint is that Curtis Jones could probably handle it himself, because as his star rises he will be playing more games. But just in case he can’t, we are looking for 12 more games to be covered between the whole midfield group, over and above what they gave last season. Very doable.

I will end with a however…

I still would like to sign a new midfielder, partly to add more oomph and athleticism to the group, and partly to start to think about succession planning.

that figure is a mirage…

Not really.

Yes

I was saying this a month or so ago.

Young, Home-grown, Premier league experience and a natural goal-scorer.

Get it done.

And massively fucked over by his club in favour of a shiny new toy.

I’d love to get Abraham. Massive upgrade on Origi. However I do think he is going to want to be a regular starter in his next move and I don’t think we can offer that.

As per bbc gossip. Adama Traore For a cut price deal. It would be a good transfer for our squad, had a shit year last year but I believe he would regain his for here. He also has a reasonable wage atm.

It does make next years Mbappe transfer more challenging.

Yes, he would be a useful addition to the squad, plus I think Mane needs the competition. Last season he continued to get picked even though he wasn’t at his best.

If we were to buy Traore and sell Origi, then maybe AOC would be Origi’s ‘replacement’ in that he could play centrally.

Most overrated player in the league. Hard pass.

Well last year I agree, the year before he was good, so if the price is reasonable £30m, due to form, then I trust Klopp to get the best out of him.

Take Sarr or Doku over Traore any day.

Traore not trusted to start for Wolves or Spain. Only stands out because of his build and speed. Nowhere near good enough a footballer for Liverpool

I still think we will sign couple of players. One world class and another for the squad. No way we are ending the transfer season signing none.

We have Jota for that now.

I’m not a big fan of Traore. I think Neto would the player we want from Wolves, but he is coming back from a serious injury. Wouldn’t be surprised if Neto and maybe Raphina from Leeds are on our list for next summer.

Quite a few sites claiming we are struggling with the homegrown player rule. Anyone know what’s happening with that.

With the Traore and Sarr rumours reappearing, the only logical next step is that we re-sign Jota.

Clearly not much coming out of LFC HQ, media getting more and more desperate to print some transfer trash.

No, probably not.

But imagine you are a defender at a stubborn mid table premier league side. You’re hanging in for a draw against Liverpool. You’re tired and battered. Your legs are like jelly, and your lungs are burning, but you only have to hold for 15 minutes. Just 15 minutes of pressure to withstand. You can do this.

But then you realise Liverpool are preparing a sub. Allowing yourself a glance to the touch line you see Adama Traore, as wide as he is tall, 18 stones of pure muscle, oiling his biceps and staring at you with intent.

For. Fucks. Sake.

So he comes on, takes the ball, shoulders you into the hoardings and skins the covering defender. Then hammers the ball over everyone’s head and into touch. And you realise you’d nothing to worry about after all

Only problem with that is that with the fitness levels of Premier League players these days their lungs won’t be burning and the legs won’t be jelly.

Realistically they look at Traore and think “fuck me he’s big… Oh well, just don’t let him run in behind me and we are fine”.

Traore actually created quite a few chances last season, very high on the list of chances created from open play, not far behind Mane. However, I’d like to know how many of those came from getting to the byline and float a cross in, I’m guessing a relatively high percentage.

So the question is how useful his style of play would be for Liverpool. Personally I don’t think his game would translate well, but you never know, maybe I could be convinced.
