The Unreliable Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 1)

Gio is very good, and has a higher ceiling than Pulisic I think, though they play different positions. Gio is the playmaker of the future (for the USA). Right now though he is at the perfect spot at Dortmund and has become very good friends with Sancho, Haaland, and Bellingham and that’s a great group to be part of and have fun while learning to play at the highest levels.

I think Gio Reyna’s contract is up in 9 months because that’s the end of hte season when he turns 18. Dortmund definitely want to sign him to a new contract - and the next one will be the first where he is an adult. Is there a rule about a player under hte age of 17 sign a contract that lasts past his 18th birthday (or the season end during which he turns 18)?

most of what I’ve seen of Gio at Dortmund has had him at left forward, which is a role they used Pulisic in a lot (he’s fine off either side). They do play it differently though, kind of like comparing how Phil and Mane played the role. But that is even more of a plus point for Gio, as youd expect that sort of player to have a slower ascent into the first team than an athlete like Pulisic.

Very true - though in their first game last week he was used centrally as a withdrawn forward or attacking mid behind Sancho and Haaland. He scored Dortmunds first goal of hte year (assisted by Bellingham) and was the one fouled (after a pass from Sancho) to earn the PK for Haaland’s first goal.

Gio Reyna, Erling Haaland, Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham.
Four players, three nationalities and strangely all born in the same country - England.

Good call. I didn’t know that!

I wouldn’t say they are unreliable they have many pundits they invite in the evenings to discuss various sports subjects and after debating the topic then they vote for a yes or a no and in this case the young ones voted for RM and the older ones for us as his next destination but they have no inside info on where he will decide to go just like us speculating but the majority want him to stay in France of course.

I maybe wrong but most of the talented US players almost always opt for London when they want to go and play in the PL? I believe we wanted to sign Pulisic but a) he was overpriced by Dortmund and secondly he has to really want to join us before we can take a risk on them.

I think if Cardiff or Swansea came in for him he would go for it?

According to sly sports transfer centre " The Clarets are in talks with Liverpool over a deal for winger Wilson, and are said to be discussing a fee in the region of £15m."

Just who are we to believe?

Sly sports I like it, All guess work I doubt either side would be making public what is happening.

Being honest - I think they opt for whoever will take them to be honest. That said, Pulisic is probably the only one that had much of a choice and I’m led to believe that Chelsea were willing to put up the most cash for him.

I’d have loved to see Pulisic here. I think he’d have been great on the wing and potentially in the middle, but he’s not better than Mane or Salah. He could have come but I don’t think he’d have gotten nearly the playing time that he got and will get at Chelsea. And yes, I think he was overpriced for what he was when the sale happened, but honestly I think he’s going to have a really good career, and in the end it might look a good deal.

FWIW: Our 2 best goalkeepers came to England to play in the north — Friedel to Liverpool and Howard to ManU, but each ended up with other teams (Blackburn and Everton). Claudio Reyna (Gio’s dad) played for Sunderland and Man City. So I’ll argue that 3 of our best players went to England to play outside of London.

Yes Friedel was unlucky with us he had an average defense in front of him and he did a lot better when he went elsewhere.

If they were going to make a serious push to try getting back into the Prem,I’d have him at Cardiff City, problem is the club hasn’t got the right manager and the owner doesn’t look like he’s going to offer the funds to pay anywhere near £15mill for a player, ever since they’ve slid back into the Championship,i’d imagine Swansea are in the same boat aswell.

I thought the same about Pulisic… whenever I see Pulisic I’m reminded that while Dortmund was buying Ousmane Dembele, Mario Gotze and Emre Mor to block his path, Klopp was trying to sneak in and grab him for 10 mil…

The only reason I wasn’t overly disappointed when he ended up at Chelsea instead of Liverpool was his injury record and the price considering his contract situation. He was taking over v Bayern and at the Bernabeu as a teenager. Good enough was never really a concern IMO

Haven’t seen enough of Gio to know, but if he’s miles ahead of Christian, he must be pretty special. And starting and/or contributing for Dortmund at this age, says plenty tbh

So Reyna is only a couple of months away from being allowed to talk to other clubs regarding a free transfer? It seems so very unlike Dortmund to find themselves in position like that. There will be some scramble for his signature if true, if he’s smart he’ll stay put though.

Or he can come to Liverpool where 3 senior CMs are around 29-30, learn from Thiago under Klopp, and become a world superstar in a few years with his midfield partner, Curtis Jones.

Just dreaming…

Liverpool are looking to use forward Sadio Mane to persuade fellow Senegal international Kalidou Koulibaly to join from Napoli , despite Manchester City and Paris St-Germain being interested in the 29-year-old defender. [(Le Parisien,]

This is from the BBC’s rumour page. Although they link to a UK shithouse, the original story is from France.
