The Unreliable Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 1)

Hmm so lots of almost certainly bullshit talk flying around about a possible Sterling return.

Yes or no who would take him?

For me he’d have to embark on a helluva PR campaign and be willing to take a paycut (publicly acknowledged) and earn his money again. But its hard to deny that I don’t think there are many better matches out there for what Klopp wants from wide players. Think Jurgen would turn him into a monster of a player too. As long as the fee wasn’t too high too… I’d have to say yes although I wish I could say no. He’s a bit too old for what I think we really need but he could be a bridge between the current starting 3 and a new generation including young talents like Kade Gordon.

I’d be OK with it subject to fee, wages, and whether it would prevent us from pursuing more long term options.

Personally, I can’t see it happening for a myriad of reasons.

I wouldn’t be against the idea, but he would have to accept spending even more time on the bench. Then again, if we’d had him, or someone like him, last season when Mane went off the boil we would have been a lot more productive up front.

Sterling?

No thanks. We do alright with our No Dickheads policy and don’t see any need to change that

If Klopp signs off on him, then it’s because it’s the right move for us and because he doesn’t think he’s a dick head.

But I think it’s just traffic bait for the media at the moment

Would be great to have more Sterlings but not Sterling

There’s more chance of Mbappe or Ronaldo signing for us than there is Sterling.

Fee would be more than we sold him for which just wouldn’t be palatable. Wages would be higher than our best paid players and can the wage bill take that. He wouldn’t be a guaranteed starter anyway. City would never sell him direct to us because we’re their main rival.

Wouldn’t want him either after the way he forced his way out.

Apparently we have approached Brighton for Bissouma.

@Sweeting just had a little sex wee.

I’m refusing to get drawn in again. This is probably just us being used once again to push the likes of Arsenal or someone else to make a move.

The one midfield I’d love us to sign, he is quality and the ideal age.

I’d be happy with that as well. I haven’t really watched him too much, maybe 6-7 games and most of those two seasons ago, but I remember I liked him.

Then I watched Brighton vs Watford the other day, and was really impressed. Seems to have improved a lot the last 12-18 months based on that game.

His numbers on the ball aren’t super impressive, but I just like the way he plays. And defensively he’s very good when it comes to pressing, ball winning, 1v1s (both ways actually).

With Jones and Elliott emerging as genuine first-team options in midfield, it does feel like our primary gap there currently is in DM. Fab is great but beyond him we only really have Hendo doing a job that isn’t his favourite. Bringing in Bissouma would instantly give us great strength in depth in midfield.

Coming from The Athletic, so don’t really hold as much weight for reliability as they did when they first started.

Given how highly he is rated, I can’t see it happening. Would seem a waste to have just as back up to Fab, and you would be cutting off some of the games Hendo is probably expected to pick up this season.

The Echo is reporting a claim in The Athletic that we have “made an approach” for Derby County’s 36 year old Scottish goalkeeper Davis Marshall.
Doubt if Alisson is too perturbed about that.
