The Unreliable Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 1)

Why?? Hasn’t Adrian been given another year and we still can’t get rid of Karius. And of course we’ve got Keven as an able duty for Allison. Why would we want another keeper?

I think we’ll have to wait and see.
It’s so exciting, isn’t it?

And there’s also the dreaded… AFCON

Klopp likes his experienced back ups. Probably not interested at all in Karius playing, I think even Pitaluga would start ahead of him.

I imagine Derby would be willing to let Marshall leave on a free so maybe it would more to do with coaching experience he could gain here.

I imagine that he’d be a target if either Keita or AOC left but otherwise I think we’d be looking for someone younger.

Why, with Jones and Elliot about?

25 is about right. Immediate impact, loads of years left in him. Better than the likes of Camavinga, Gravenberch, Auoar etc who are often linked.

To @redfanman’s point above, I don’t think Bissouma would only be a back up to Fab, he could play as an ‘8’ as well, similar to the role Keita has started in.

Thanks. I haven’t watched him play. In that case the links make more sense to me now.

Quite. So I’d wonder why he’d come if Keita and/or AOC were still here? He’d be concerned about game time when he’s currently starting every week. It seems a lot to spend on someone for CM when they’re likely to be only a rotational player at the age of 24/25 depending on the fitness of Keita, AOC, Henderson, Fabinho, Thiago.

Unless any of those move on I think our squad, particularly in CM but also up front, is more suited to accommodating a younger player.

I think he probably starts ahead of Keita if I’m honest, and Chamberlain wouldn’t be serious competition.

That being said, the midfield is well stocked, there’s no major need to go and buy another player (regardless of age). But Bissouma would be an upgrade IMO.

Keita, Fabinho and Bissouma in midfield would press the living daylights out of any team. I can’t see us moving for someone this late in the window but what a tempo setting midfield that would be.

Cant see where Bissouma would fit tbh

We already have one of the best DM’s in game and Hendo and Thiago can cover and we have Keita, who has started the season reasonably well and cost 50 mil and a combination of Hendo ,Thiago, Ox, Milly, Jones and Elliott for the more attacking roles.

We buy Bissouma he takes game time from Keita Ox and prob more importantly Jones and Elliott.

Looking at our options in CM we just don’t need him. Wouldnt be upset if we got him he’s obviously a quality player but he does give the ball away a bit more than I like and that wouldnt fly in our team. Could be the quality of player around him too and he does have obvious quality but I can see why we havent made a move for an mids or attacking players really.

On paper with no injuries at the moment we looked stacked. And others could yet leave without really weakening our primary squad Nat, Ojo etc

Midfield has the numbers and it’s hard to see someone arriving without a departure.

Maybe not this window now but what needs to happen with the Midfield isn’t an increase of numbers. Its about age and availability.

There’s only really Elliott and Jones who are really involved under the age of 25 to start forming the next generation. Henderson and Thiago are two main components of our CM and that won’t last for many more seasons. Ideally they’d be starting to fade a little into squad player roles in the next few seasons as the players in their prime (Fabinho, Keita and Ox) established themselves as defacto starters but only really Fabinho has done that. So there won’t really be a bridge, as it stands, from the current Midfield to the future Midfield, except for Fabinho. So it’s even more important that future Midfield starts to be brought in and formed as early as possible.

The other issue with Midfield, and the reason Keita and Ox haven’t established themselves as main choices in CM, is availability. Keita and Ox have literally contributed about one player worth, maybe even less, between them so far. Henderson and Thiago aren’t too reliable either and even Fabinho will miss games like any normal player. Its hard to imagine relying on Keita and Ox in future seasons when Henderson and Thiago either aren’t here or in squad roles.

I still feel the ideal would have been to let Ox and Keita move on to the highest (acceptable to them) bidder this summer when they had 2 years left and bring in young developing talents that could offer cover and depth for now but be potential world class starters in the future. Hopefully that now happens next year or at least one of Ox or Keita have a great season and make me eat my words!

Klopp’s presser seems to make it clear he’s happy with midfield options for this season so I guess any hope for incomings is up top and relies on Origi going which doesn’t sound likely.

Bissouma is a very good player but the timing and circumstances don’t seem right. His age is perfect, as he fits in between some players who will age out over the next 1–3 years, and other players who are starting to come through.

The problem is the space to accommodate him. Basically, Keita and Ox are in the way! If either of them depart, game on. At that point if he comes, bring it on. Our recruitment is good and he looks a player, for sure. But I don’t see it.

Now, if there was something in the Henderson leaving talk we saw earlier in summer, then by all means, fill your boots. But Henderson is our captain and Klopp spoke recently about his deal so he is staying.

Bissouma good player. But I don’t see the space for him, at his age, as he will want to play regularly.

Not sure why that would be the case? We can comfortably add another player if we wanted, now that Shaqiri is gone. I think it’s more the case that we have no appetite to do so.

Yep. This is why I’m against this (proposed) signing.

Nothing against Bissouma himself- he’s a fine player- but the knock-on effects wouldn’t be ideal.

How is taking minutes off Ox being perceived as a bad thing?

some pretty direct quotes from the Juve boss in there. not a lot of “he said, she said”.

I think we’re saying the same thing. Unless an offer comes in that makes it worth selling Origi then he’ll stay and no more incomings. If one does then I imagine there’s a plan of who they’ll try to bring in.

I’m guessing they’d like him to go but only for sensible money.

I really get the sense that if @ubermick was going to be driving anyone to the airport now that Lovren’s gone, it would be Divock.

Unfortunately, he’s become utterly pointless.
