The Unreliable Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 1)

Mikey’s leaving present to the fans- Mbappé on a Bosman.

Not surprising. PSG were probably not serious about accepting a bid either, just wanted to string Real along for the fun of it.

Highly respected insider candidate who may still harbour managerial ambitions. His last job will have been a strong learning experience. Big difference between that club and this one.

Unless Mikey will take Mbappe to his new club with him…! :flushed:

He’ll be there before Mike arrives. Mike’s job will be to build a team around him on a budget, albeit a bigger budget than he appears to have had to play with here.

Will be sad to see Edwards leave, if true. Then again, I think the power is in the department that has been created, as there are assorted NASA boffs in the setup now, so I’m still trusting in the collective.

New manager? Don’t want to think about that now. Klopp has a good while to go and hopefully there are a few more very big trophies coming our way under him. All good things come to an end and at that point the main variables will be internal or external candidate? You can make a case either way. Stevie is doing great so keep going lad! And who knows who else will be available, and/or coming to the fore?

But not yet! Jurgen’s our man and like all reds I am loving his tenure at the club.

McNeil from Burnley? if he was cheap I see a decent player in there.

But he won’t be so I can’t see it.

I believe I don’t care.

And what ship is this?

Any top jobs that will come up in the PL Rodgers will be linked. Gerrard will not. Dislike Rodgers all you want but he’s currently a better manager.

You seem under the illusion I want Rodgers as manager again. I don’t. I was very much of the opinion he was here too long. I was using Rodgers as an example as he is a better manager now than when he left us and is streets ahead of Gerrard. I don’t think that’s debatable.

A better prospect for achieving less in Scotland than Rodgers who also won the FA Cup? OK then.

Me too. But will need to step up from the B team to be even considered regardless of how cool he is.

If Klopp went tomorrow neither Rodgers nor Gerrard are of the standard to be in the conversation to replace him.

We tried the relatively untested at the top route before with Rodgers and it didn’t work. We tried the Rodgers route with Rodgers and it didn’t work. Currently nothing suggests either deserve the top job here.

If we’re not going to be able to compete on the money front then we absolutely need a top tier manager.

No other top tier manager (except rafa) would come here without money to spend.

My bet would be Thomas Tuchel. The shelf life of a Chelsea manager is only 2-3 years.

By then they will have grown tired of missing out on the league and want a new toy.

Agreed.

To reiterate I was using Rodgers as an example of someone who is currently a better manager than Gerrard but someone we wouldn’t approach.

If Stevie stays at Rangers until Klopp leaves and Xabi stays at Sociedad B until Klopp leaves I’m still preferring Xabi over Stevie.

Xabi is a football genius and his network is priceless.

Depends on what you mean by competing on the money front. But I would suspect that the incoming manager may have more funds than Klopp has had the last two seasons to compete with as another piece of the stadium jigsaw is completed, and the team starts to be refreshed with those on higher wages gradually being replaced.

Of course they would, just like Klopp did. Not every top tier manager needs a gulf state or oligarch owner to consider a job at a top club.

Is Klopp leaving?
That came out of nowhere
In a thread meant to be about Mbappe, Haaland, Chiesa… Quaresma and Silva

Tomorrow is doing the heavy lifting in your opening sentence. 2 years time with more experience and success is a totally different situation.
