We’re obviously saving our money for someone special.
I’m not in the ‘FSGOUT sky is falling’ crew, but do think we are clearly an attacker light. Injury to Bobby has us already thinking about flogging Mo, Mane, Jota for 3 games a week.
Read earlier that Origi has started only 33 PL games in 8 years. What is going on that we haven’t found a replacement for him yet?
… Next year. But then either there’ll be nobody available on the market (we won’t match the wage offers for Mbappe and Haaland and Fati will be Barcas new star player) or if (Fowler forbid) we don’t make CL then that will be used as the new reason not to sign anyone. And it’ll be the next year we are saving for once again.
I wonder does Michael Wdwards leaving really leave us fucked a bit in regards to transfers now and over the next 12 months
I really don’t think that is the case. Anyone familiar with our fanbase, particularly of the vocal cohort on social media would know there would be people kicking off whatever the club did.
Contracts are usually revisited when there is around 2 years left. Makes sense to do it in the summer when previous contracts have usually been offered (and the players and coaching staff have had their discussions around their plans to stay or go). Some like Trent may have been given a new contract early to recognise their performances, but that is a good thing.
I think this is somewhat irrelevant. How many of those have sides are better than ours, or their squads deeper than ours, even after that spending? How many of them have been having to buy to make up for losing players? How many of those players who have moved been ones we would have wanted?
People losing their shit because our fifth or 6th choice attacker isn’t a worldie make me laugh.
No. He isn’t the only one working on them. If he is stepping down at the end of the season, the bulk of the work on incoming players will probably have been done. Additional support will be given to the recruitment team if it is needed next summer for the work to be finalised.
I really don’t think anyone wants Origi or he would have been gone 2 seasons ago.
When you take into account the return of our injured players. We nearly have a brand new squad.
These muppets have me in stitches. The best is when they are crying all over the forum about missing out on Tammy Abraham for upwards of 40m
Don’t go too early. Window doesn’t close til 11 and you never know. I’m spending the next 12 hours sharpening the prongs on my pitchfork just in case.
In all seriousness and as someone who is definitely more on the FSG-sceptic side of things I never believed we would end this window making a profit. Not after last season. I thought at least a couple of good quality first team options would come in. Getting a solitary CB, something we should really have done last summer, would be the bare minimum of bare minimums. A lot of fans including those who have been very supportive of the ownership until now are not going to be happy.
Fiorentina have opened talks with Liverpool for Divock Origi this morning.
Great, an Italian club.
“We’ll take him on loan for two years for no fee then have an option to buy for €2m” (which we have no intention of taking up but we won’t tell you that)
No, thank you.
Making a profit is only a negative if we haven’t got the players in we want. If we’d sold Nat, Origi, Minamino, Ojo and Karius and bought in a £30-£40m forward we could still have a positive net spend whilst also doing the business we need.
It’s entirely possible Chelsa will end the window with a positive net spend and everyone is talking them up as title contenders whilst we’ve apparently not done enough and have tight owners.
Spending the most money doesn’t win you a trophy, having the best team does irrespective of how much they cost. Saying that, I’d really like us to buy a forward option please.
Funny thing is I’m definitely what you would consider FSG in as most of what they do, in my opinion, is good work and I certainly don’t want the Russian Roulette of new ownership.
However when it comes to transfers the quality of Klopps management and player development has definitely allowed them to be far more cautious with spending than they should be. This financial year we are in will actually be a good one for the books. By not utilising it to secure future success and revenue we are taking a huge gamble on the magic of Klopp seeing us over the line once more.
Yes, me too. And if we do we won’t have made a profit.
Oh shit! Its happening!
Mbappe.
There has reportedly been interest. I’m not sure how much of this interest has been turned into acceptable offers, but what appears to be a big stumbling block is Origi actually wanting to go.
Pearce has said Liverpool are expecting offers for Phillips today.
BTW for anyone still doubting the Henderson news being released today isn’t a “well timed” PR exercise… he’s down at St George’s Park with England. When we’re these photos and videos of him discussing the extension he’s just penned taken/filmed exactly?
