It really is.
Absolute drivel at that level.
I agree, the link was Italian press which is very unreliable!
He was decent against Spain though!
I know him, he has played for Feyenoord as a fullback, nothing special.
Not to mention that most players will lift their level for a knocknout tournament over a few games when representing their country. Completely different to being able to sustain a very high level over a premier league season.
If our scouts are watching him, it would have been over many months/years.
But so is Italian league when compared to Premier league. Or the championship. But we still get players from there.
Besides, I do think this yearâs world cup has been really good in terms of quality, which is ironic considering all the other circumstances around it. Whereas the last 1-2 Euros and WCs were utter borefest with both sides sitting back and playing Burnley football, this time weâre seeing a lot of teams that have been properly coached, with a proper system. Even Brasil have moved away from their jogo bonito freestyle approach and are much more structured, and less reliant on individual brilliance.
If I was an analyst, Iâd at least try to understand if a player having good performance in the world cup is an oddity based on more motivation to play for the country maybe or playing weaker teams, or is there some tactical reason behind it where the international manager has figured something out which the club coach hasnât.
And this lad plays in the Italian league, where he is shite.
International games are a tiny sample size, played against teams who rarely play together, at a much slower pace, with lower quality coaching and simpler tactical set ups.
Think of it this way. Billy Gilmour was once man of the match against Liverpool in an EFL Cup game. He dominated centre midfield and, almost entirely based on that game, was seen as one of the best youth players in the country. Of course this was the EFL Cup so he was playing against a shadow Liverpool side and playing with mostly Chelsea back ups - neither team was taking it too seriously.
Gilmour then goes on loan to Norwich where he is expected to dominate. He stinks the place out, worst player on a bad team. Goes back to Chelsea cant get a game. Joins Brighton for a fresh start and cant get on the pitch, six months later hes looking for another move.
Thats because the rating of Gilmour was not based on consistent performances. It was based on a tiny sample size where he played above expectation.
Its the same for every guy who suddenly pops up having a good game for their country at an international tournament. If theyre crap at club level, believe it.
Probably because he was playing at full back
Every player is brought up from âlower standard footballâ, so itâs wrong to think that players canât replicate that in the best leagues in the world.
What counts is 2 things, the talent and the passion and how those 2 things are brought out i.e from coaching i.e the support from team mates.
& we have been successful in the past signings players off the back of Euros/World CupsâŚdoes the name Fernando Torres or Luis Suarez ring any bells to you?
Your little ratings table showed that Fabinho (as shockingly bad as many make out which I can acceptâŚto an extent) is above or around the likes of Rodri and ParteyâŚ
They werenât signed off the back of World Cup performancesâŚ
They were RFM, if they never went and played in the World Cups & performed as well as they did, we wouldnât have signed themâŚsimple as.
Watch how Marocco plays they park the bus and he plays with 10 men around him moving a bit from right to left, this guy is simply not good enough for Liverpool.
Phil Babb had a good world cup in 1994 i think
Donât worry Iâve been watching every game this World Cup and I know what Iâve seenâŚbeen arguably the best midfielder so far. Youâre setting the bar for a midfielder of a Xavi or Modric type player who come around once in a generation where theyâre seemingly able to marshal a midfield on their ownâŚsorry but 99.9% of players need others around them, itâs a team sport my man.
Whatever, back to ignore âŚ
Whether we sign him or not, Amrabat he been one of the best midfield performers in the World Cup, that much is pretty universally acknowledged. Regardless of whether he has teammates around him or not, he covers ground very quickly, is strong in the tackle and can look up and make an offensive pass. In addition he has a bit of the twinkle toes that all Moroccans seem to possess in varying degrees.
It shows Rodri as better defensively but not as influential offensively, based on the first 10 games of the season. Overall they are roughly ranked the same but of course their jobs are not equally balanced between attacking and defence.
Anyway, if you think we signed Torres and Suarez based on their international performances, rather than being the best players for major European teams, then Iâm fine to let you live in that fantasy.
The thing is Kop, people donât want to have their own opinions based on actual viewingâŚitâs too much effort for them to take time out and have an opinion on player ABC so instead they revert to taking the quick ânâ easy route and either go by what someone else says (who wouldvâe never seen that player play because theyâve gone by what some other guy has said) or by looking at stats (which are very often misleading or theyâre portrayed in a way to suit their agenda).
And I hope we stay far away from him and I tell why.
Before he ended up as a fullback for Feyenoord he played in midfield for them, he could not hack it because they did not park the bus he was not surrounded by teammates.
Nothing special.
Amrabat - Iâm not fussed. Donât especially want him as he does not seem good enough. Sweeting showed some working to illustrate that, cheers.
If we do sign him, two things:
-
It wonât just be because of the World Cup. We do our homework and will have been tracking him for a while, and will know everything about him. Which brings me to:
-
If we do sign him, the manager and recruitment team have a view on what he can do for us, and the info they have goes beyond the sort of stats, action and insight any of us on here have seen.
It doesnât mean we canât offer our opinion, as thatâs what the forum is all about!
I donât think we will sign him, but Iâm chilled. Maybe he is a mid ranking player, age and price, who makes sense with a very expensive option in Bellingham, and a young lad making his mark in Elliott.
Perhaps we prefer the likes of Caicedo to play with Bellingham (if Jude is the big fish we land) but Brighton are so ridiculous on the price we are forced to look elsewhere for a midfielder who covers the ground and offers some sort of protection to the defence.
Oh, and wild suggestion I know, but maybe we have a decent offer for Fabinho, and we have decided he is not untouchable, as the engine room needs to be refreshed?
He wouldnât be the first player who underwhelmed somewhere only to show more qualities somewhere else. Not saying that we are interested in him but itâs not as straightforward as you would suggest
