@GermanRed I asked the question and got a very quick response(Removed at their request)
He won the Sudamericana with Defensa y Justicia of all clubs as a key player at 19, and the Primera with River the next season. He’s been regarded one of the most exciting prospects to come out of Argentina in a long time. Benfica won’t mind a bit if the sharks sleep on him for another six months/season.
Yarroch is another Argentinean journo
DaveCOCKUP was taken so he took the next closest.
We’re not paying £240m for Enzo and Bellingham
You’re not suggesting somebody on twitter is making things up?!
£400m for Enzo, Bellingham and Mbappe it is so…
Mo Chatra had an interesting Twitter thread to show how we could afford both Enzo and Bellingham, especially with turnover about to break £600M.
It would be amazing if we signed both. I see Enzo as a Thiago type of playmaker, with more goals. I see Bellingham as a Henderson type of box to box, with more goals.
Interesting times.
I guess we see, foreign journalists is usually how deals leak for us.
If the club is pretty sure of a deal (I still feel FSG are going be around as minority holders) then this could make sense.
Unless of course we know the funding is now in place but how it will work is yet unclear.
At a young age it’s difficult to pigeon hole him, but he seems comparable to what we’d expect of Fab than Thiago. He’s athletic and gets stuck in, and can use the ball well when he gets it, but is more the guy who will give it to a creator than the guy to make a final pass. In fact he’s probably compliment thiago pretty well in a midfield 2.
If we are paying his release fee then surely this happens in January. Why pay his release fee to wait 6 months. Enzo in Jan, Jude end of season, if they are both happening.
This is the only one that really matters though
Mbappe would have been really impressed with the way Bellingham helped out Walker and kept him largely quiet, and of course then feel Hendo’s influence first hand. It’s happening. It’s The Mbappening.
Tbf, I believe the opinion over the summer from the journos was Nunez and Tchouameni in the summer and Bellingham a year later. The money for Nunez was seen as separate to the money for Tchouameni and we were willing to match Madrid in terms of fee. This should mean the money is still there for Bellingham +1 in midfield; might be the club believe we can get both and are willing to splash the cash
It’s hard to know what to think, with lots of smoke around both Enzo and Bellingham signing for us. (I take Limies point above too, about pigeon holing and weighing the attributes of Enzo as more like Fabinho than Thiago).
But what the heck is going on?!
Are we really going to sign both?
Or do we think the double move is a way of warding off a competitor, so we ‘relinquish’ the one who is second choice for us?
E.g. Man City are sniffing around Bellingham, and we know they also like Enzo, so we are going for both as if to say, we want a free run at Bellingham, and in exchange we won’t interfere with your Enzo deal?
I think most of us assume we’re going to lose Naby, Ox and Milner in the summer after their contracts end. All it takes is some momentum on finding a buyer for Fab and all of a sudden buying both doesnt seem that far fetched. I dont see both happening without the Fab deal happening though.
When the dust settles:
Bellingham, Enzo, Henderson, Thiago, Elliott, Jones, Bacjetic, Morton.
With arguably not all of the last three in the list making it here long term, but there’s plenty of time for them to grow and make a case for themselves.
I’ll take it.
Milner will be on another 1yr contract, each year at lower wages. The guy knows where he is at, and the squad know what he brings is enough for a squad player with major influence in the dressing room and field, especially with the younger crowd that will start taking up important squad positions.
