They paid 85 for someone who’s only played a few dozen games, so they’re gonna get fleeced
I dont think the reported 55+ fee Brighton are requiring for Caicedo is unreasonable. It’s not necessarily a fee in line with what the player has proven, but in terms of the risk of Brighton letting him go it is fair. They surely plan for their signings doing well and moving on, but there has to be a reasonable cadence for that for it to make sense. Having to go through that cycle as quickly as 1 season increases the risks of them not being able to find the right replacement. Team like Brighton are always a great model for how to run a club well, but still often find themselves only 1 bad window away from freefall…
In the current market it’s a steal… He’s premiership proven, so to get him half of what Bellingham / Fernandez are being quoted at, is well worth it.
£65mil is what we got quoted according to the papers, even that is a good price.
Maybe his agent is using Liverpool name to pressure Chelsea but I think this is the second time a reputable source has linked Liverpool with Mount.
Step them up a bit harder please Chelsea.
That’s the offer they’ve rejected, word is they want more like £75m to do a deal.
Point taken, but I think that is my point. Given the accelerated cadence this would represent, they are completely justified in holding out for such a price. This is not a high value despite his lack of premier league experience…it is a high price because he has only come into the team so recently.
The fact there’s only 10 days left in the window to bring a replacement in no doubt figures in their valuation as well.
Yes, a high fee also helps them look tough in negotiations and perhaps keeps other clubs in line over approaching them for mid season or late day summer which may unsettle their planning.
or perhaps those sources aren’t that reputable anymore.
Brighton will be very happy to keep Caicedo. A prospective buyer would need to make them an offer they can’t refuse. The player has a long time on his contract. He is doing very well for them. Brighton are flying high in the Prem. There’s no financial pressure or difficulty for them, and relative to the wider footballing world, even modest Premier League teams are at least quite wealthy, due to the enormous TV revenues.
So with all that said, Brighton can put whatever price they like on Caicedo. Pay the price if you want to force our hand. Or don’t pay it, and we will happily keep the player.
I don’t think reasonable comes into it. It’s just business.
More clubs could be more involved in the summer also, from their perspective.
Camavinga to Arsenal on loan doing the rounds. If he is available we should be all over that.
If he came here he’d probably get injured within a week and people would be excoriating FSG for “buying a cheap crock”.
In all seriousness though do we even have the squad space for an addition?
Even though Mount is having a ‘down’ year by his standards. He’s just one season removed from notching double digit goals and assists in the Premier league.
If we can get him on a free in January, that would be an enormous coup for Liverpool!
Most likely his agent is just trying to leverage a better contract out of Chelsea… but if the interest is mutual, I wouldn’t mind seeing Mount join our midfield.
Mount would also count as a home grown player which would be useful for the club’s overall transfer strategy. Still sounds more like agent talk to me.
dont need him. Have Mello…
That would be next January then. Doesn’t he still have 18mths on his contract ?
Mount is one season away from double digit assists and goals per season, he’s 24, home grown… I’d be very happy if we signed him. Not a single Chelsea player this season has looked good, so his drop of form isn’t important.
Pretty sure every time he’s faced us he’s pressed us well all game. Looks like have a great engine. Very Gini like.
Agree, would be delighted to get him on a free or reduced fee. Wouldn’t pay big bucks for him though
