Sounds more like clickbait rather than Pierce relaying actual information. Not that it is far-fetched but that’s something that most fans would say if asked what to do for funds. It might prove to be true but I suspect that’d be down to Kelleher’s own desire for more playing time rather than the club attempting to offload him.
If the club was actually contemplating such a move to raise funds, selling Alisson, one of the best goalkeepers in the world who is now the wrong side of 30 and retaining Kelleher, the young capable understudy would make much more sense.
I’d also suggest that if hunger was genuinely the problem we have in our squad, this would be a good thing to demonstrate to young players who think they can make it here, that we don’t have any sacred cows and that if they’re good enough they’ll succeed here.
Haven’t we started a “keeper” acadamy of sorts? So we can generate a nice and steady stream of income from keepers, whilst cherry picking the ones we want to keep?
Kelleher would command a fee of around £30mil, add to that Phillips around £10mil that offsets Nunes (the midfielders) etc.
Not sure I agree 30 is any sort of concern age for keepers, Ali has easily got another 4-5 years in him at the very top.
It’s a bit variable. You could see Alisson playing on at the top level for quite a bit.
I think really it’s down to him, and whether he wants to finish his career here. And whether he has the stomach to wait for any kind of rebuild to put us back competing for trophies.
With Kelleher, I don’t think we’ve ever had a number two who gives me as much confidence as he does. If Alisson wanted to leave, I would retain him as number one without a second thought.
Not saying that 30 is concerning for keepers, on the contrary for most early thirties are the best years of their career. The club wouldn’t be selling Alisson because he is starting to wane but because he is still in his prime and his value is at its highest.
Kelleher is in an awkward position. Too good to sit on the bench, and now at the stage where he should be playing regularly, to establish himself at whatever level he does - I would have thought at least as a mid level Prem goalie, but he could easily prove to be world class.
If we sell, I would insist on a cast iron buy back, as while you can never tell what the exact level will be, Kelleher’s potential range seems to be mid Prem level, to best goalie in the Prem.
If he goes on to reach the upper part of what he might, we need to bring him back to replace Alisson in a few years.
#LFC are reportedly interested in Johan Bångsbo (19) of IFK Göteborg. The Swedish U21 international won 70.1% of his defensive duels last season and averaged 4.63 interceptions and 9.56 recoveries per 90. He describes Van Dijk as the player he plays like the most.
No idea who the fuck this guy is but it’s something I suppose.
Update: Moukoko signs new Dortmund contract until 2026. He’s off the market now! So instead of paying 15-20m to get Moukoko this winter, expect his pricetag to jump to 80m plus in just 1-2 seasons. LFC napping at the wheel!
I’d love him to finish his career here, but I’d be having the conversation with him. If we’re letting a Kelleher go, I’d want to make sure Ali is on board for the next three years at least.
Now that you’ve posted that, I think I can see where @Semmy is coming from, because your first post kind of suggests that there might have have been rumours that he wanted to leave perhaps.
But I’d agree with you, I think between Kelleher and Alisson, we need to make sure we tie one of them down.
neither is going anywhere. Kelleher single-handedly won us a cup last year. Allison secured CL for us the year before and has won everything there is with us. they won’t be sold.
