Weāve never ever ever, literally ever had anywhere close to that kind of money to spend, proof is in the puddingā¦probably a figure plucked out of James Pearceās arse crack.
Only reason we canāt sign another player now is because weāve used up our spend for this window unless we sell Salah for a fair chunk they maybe.
how sad is that. weve dropped below a team who has done fuck all for years bar the odd fa cup.
OK they have done well but this team 2 or 3 years ago would be well above them.
Probably the fact thatās where generally people think he actually works. Evidently itās a few college kids mucking about in fact the older they are the sadder it gets.
You donāt need to fill the homegrown quota. You just have to if you want fill the maximum number of slots. Weāve generally done ok on that ground, but have routinely topped up the final slots with players who are the fringiest of Fringe players who donāt practically need to be replaced. It is right to think about the composition of the squad and how it affects our quotas when thinking about transfers, but when thinking about a player like Phillips you only need to find a homegrown player to replace him if you believe he NEEDS to be replaced.
As for that chart on when the players become homegrown, it is incredibly misleading. Firstly, without going into what the rules are, I have no idea how those dates were calculated and all look WAY off. But even despite that it is still wildly misleading for not providing important context. Almost all of those players are automatically āhomegrownā for the purposes of the premier league given they have played all their youth football in england. You donāt have to register a player in one of the 25 spots if they are still classed as U21, but all of them will automatically become homegrown, for PL purposes at least, the moment they are old enough to no longer get away with being on the youth list.
UEFA is a bit different because to be able to registered as a free youth player they need to have been at the club for 2 full seasons. That is why Bajcetic is currently registered for the CL among the senior list, and as one of the 17 non homegrown players, despite only being 18. There is unconfirmed speculation that as he joined in midseason 2 years ago he will be able to drop back down into the youth list when we submit our updated squad freeing up a place for a new none home grown player. However, that spot will automatically go to Naby seeing as he was registered for the first phase.
There is the added issue in UEFA of differentiating between association trained and club trained. As mentioned above few of our home grown players are club trained so we tend to lose spots in the CL squad, but pretty much everyone else too. All of those players arrived at Liverpool at a young enough age that as long as weāre not talking about playing youth players before theyāve been with us for 2 years they will club trained by the time they are ready to take a CL squad spot.
