Elliott, Carvalho and Ramsay are all really good young players. Carvalho is one of the most technically gifted players I’ve ever seen at that age.
Duds, mate. Never mind. Bajcetic looks good.
Is Doak a dud yet?
He’ll be a dud by May don’t you worry about that!
Against Wolves the other week he got tackled, so yeah. Dud. Move him on. Might get a couple of million of we’re lucky.
Yesil - long time ago
Solanke - made a profit on his sale. Not at our level, few are, though let’s not miss the MASSIVE irony of giving him a chance and then being criticized for not signing young players and giving them a chance!
VdB - signed very young indeed. Has been progressing well on loan. Might make the grade at Liverpool, might not. To demand that he has to make the grade here misunderstands youth football and prospects. We operate at the top of the tree, and very few will make it. As it stands, he still has a chance, maybe as a squad man. But if not, good luck to him.
Elliot - remarkable how much first team football he has seen at Liverpool for his age. Enjoy the next round of the cup because of his incredible strike!
Carvalho - enjoy the three points against high flying Newcastle, after this fella smashed it into the roof of the net at the death. He may or may not make it here long term, but we are finding out, and he does know how play.
Ramsey - hasn’t really got going yet. Signed as a back up to a world class right back. Injured. And we have other options there in Milner and Gomez. Far too soon to write him off.
Bottom line: it is hard to make it at a club like Liverpool. We will naturally go for players after they have proven themselves elsewhere, as we operate at the highest level. For players we sign before they have fully proved themselves, good luck to them, and all fans should understand that very few will make it, but good luck to them all as they try to make the most of whatever chances they get.
Oh, let’s add Doak to the list. He’s a nipper and has already seen some first team action here.
We don’t do badly on this side of things, considering our level and the precarious nature of bridging the gap from youth football to playing for a club like Liverpool.
The not-so-darling duds of May?
So all this talk yet no one can still tell me the last successful young talent we scouted? It wasn’t a trick question.
No one has noticed this pattern of progression with our u21 players over the last 10 years? They make a handful of first team appearances to prove their worth and then are quickly shipped out.
Happened with Ojo, happened with Chirivella, happened with Ibe, happened with Neco, happened with Brewster and people want to desperately pull out everything they can to believe it’ll be any different with Sepp Ramsay Fabio & Harvey? Great thing about it is time will tell.
Is it this guy
First time I’ve used the ignore function on this site I think. Feel a part of myself die every time I read one of those nonsensical ramblings.
My twitter feed has no football stuff on it due to it being full of that level of shite, don’t need to read it on here as well.
Harvey Elliott has fifty appearances at senior level for Liverpool and has scored five goals. He is 19 years of age.
It might not have been a trick question, but it was certainly a shit one.
The problem with your question is that you cannot compare a club like Liverpool, where the expectations are so high and the margins between success and failure so fine, with Brighton, with no disrespect, can afford to allow a young player to develop without pressure and little cost for mistakes.
Once upon a time, Man City bought a 19-year old Ecuadorian called Caicedo for £5m. He didn’t go on to become a £60m+ player.
It’s almost as if there aren’t any guarantees when buying players around that age.
Once upon a time we were reportedly interested in buying some kid named Bellingham from Birmingham City, some kid named Sancho who left Man City and a kid named Dembele from Rennes. But all three decided to sign for Dortmund instead.
It’s almost as if sometimes, even when you identify potentially good young players, that’s only half the battle, and you also have to be able to offer them a route to regular first team football, or they’ll pick a ‘lesser’ team who can guarantee them minutes and the opportunity to move to a bigger club for a big fee later down the line.
Once upon a time, we did manage to sign a kid named ‘Allan’ and due to the complexity of work permits, he didn’t play a senior game for us in five years.
If it helps though, our South American scout had been reporting on Luis Diaz since he was 18 before we eventually signed him. Because, sometimes, that’s how scouting actually works.
Bit harsh mate I was only joking about Millie
DUD - a thing that fails to work properly or is otherwise unsatisfactory or worthless.
Yep, this describes The Almighty Reds contribution to this site.
1 under 21 player through the academy? TAA. Curtis Jones, Kelleher, Tyler Morton, Bajetic, Harvey (goalkeeper) Ramsey etc etc.
I said successful….i.e has gone on to nail down a first team place and helped to win titles.
Joe Gomez. Harvey Elliott. Trent Alexander-Arnold. Curtis Jones. Caoimhin Kelleher.
Sometimes I wish I never learned to read.
Keep going mate…you can still win this one…
You mean give me that spade.
To put Trent amongst those other names is very disrespectful.
Or rather to put those other names with Trent is very disrespectful.
