Gvardiol for 77M is a steal in the current market!

It makes him one of the most expensive defender in history, arguably the most expensive ever depending on how you treat the exchange rate, for a player with some questions about his game and to a club who already have 5 CBs.

City generally have a good plan for how to use their singinings so maybe it will be worth it for them, but it is a LONG way from a steal

That’s disregarding the Coutinho/Neymar effect and the price inflation that has followed but I take your subsequent points

What Neymar/Coutinho effect? That is already baked into the other deals against which this will be compared.

This deal on today’s exchange rate is 90m euro. That is by some accounts the most expensive deal ever done for a defender, and even factoring in wiggle room for exchange rates and inconsistency of reporting, still in a group of only 5 other deals in history of defenders moving for 70m pounds or more.

This is City buying the popular player and doing so by paying a fee that has only ever been approached a small number of times before in history. Again, it might well be worth it to them, and there might be some argument to praise them for a getting a fee still lower than others predicted it would take to land him, but it is by no means a cheap deal.

still less than maguire lol

Not according to some figures, but even if we take that as true, it’s hardly the bar to use for measuring a good or cheap deal

If you want to consider him at £77M a steal in this market then you have to compare him…with the steals in the current market.

Ibou - £35M
Akanji - £15M
Saliba - £27M
Pau Torres - £30M
Timber - £38M
Badiashile - £35M
Botman - £35M
KIM - £40M
Even Varane - £42M

You simply cannot make a case for your Hojlunds and Gvardiols of this world being a steal or great value at these prices, you’re purely buying based on potential ceiling…a huge huge risk (well less so for the Chelsea/Mancs of this world anyway)

Fair point

Gvardiol isn’t a steal, Maguire was a steal. In fact, it’s still the greatest heist ever.

I like how Kim prefers his name to be shouted when spoken aloud, and is Even Varane Rafael’s brother?

He’s still stealing a living at Man Utd

KIM, Kim, kim.

Even, even, eve-un

Rafael, Raphael , Rafa

Who cares, who cares. WHO CARES?

You’ve got so saucy lately
