In a hot-weather tournament which meant tempo is slower.
PL tempo is another kettle of fish.
Ground covered isn’t the issue with Macca. It’s how quickly (or should I say slowly) he covers the ground.

So which players in our squad can we not do better than?
tempo was slower in the world cup? slower or not, the fact is he was the midfield engine for argentina and that he put in the work. he was not the “leggy” macca from last season. he puts in that work or 80-90% of the same, we will be fine
Well, if he intentionally held back for international tourneys then he is unreliable. One good season, and then another shitty one next.
so you saying macca has had only one good season? really? was he not one of our best midfielders under klopp?
We flog him next summer ![]()
I hope you’re right mate. He’s obviously excellent on the ball. If we set up to enhance his strengths he is a definite asset.
true. honestly i think both him and ryan will surprise some folks. people forget so quickly. AI will make sure to have a system in place to make sure they are a success
The problem is Wirtz. Buying Wirtz disrupted our previously well-functional midfield trio.
Unfortunately you cannot drop Wirtz. You cannot drop Szobo as well.
put grav and Macca in the base of midfield. Macca doesn’t have to move much but ideal for him to dictate through passing. Grav can add legs and do his trademark turns with the ball and make line breaking runs as an alternative means of ball progression.
That way even if Grav coughs up possession, Macca doesn’t have to run back to mop up, that’s not his strength.
But Wirtz played as an inverted winger on numerous occasions and the midfield 3 were still poor and we all know who is to blame for that!
Macca still has to move as our 2 CM’s now, thankfully, support the press, which will suit Macca as he wont be covering a big space, the team will be compact in most defensive phases
wirtz will be fine and like @Sportbilly1966 has said, we know who to blame. we bought very offensive players in isak, wirtz and ekitike, unfortunately slot just did not play to their strenghts. they are all movement players and not stand still and stroll around with the ball. if you watched pre-season you can see how involved isak was in buildup play (like he was at newcastle and national team). folks will jus need to be patient, it will all take time as we are also still in the process of hopefully adding a few more players
I am happy to be known as the “I fecking hate memes guy”!

Profile picture changed! Thankyou all for your understanding. Now let’s sign someone!
Probably the best move for Ramsey. That clears one non-homegrown slot in the squad.
Brazilian journos saying spuds have agreed a €99 million fee with citeh for Savinho. Works out at about £85 million.
If we are selling them Gakpo i hope we fucking rinse them
Spurs probably isnt the move to unlock it, but I have held out some expectation that getting away from the constraints of playing for Pep would reinvigorate Savinho. I guess we’ll never know now if that’s true ![]()
