To Man City? Jeez, what the fuck have Hughes done to this club?

Nope you just have to look at last season, all players sucked but Gakpo constantly get criticised while some other players are constantly given the free pass because they are ā€˜generational’ talent or that they are just ā€˜badly managed by Slot’.

Even this season, he was probably the one of the better players in the last 2 matches but yet he is just ā€˜average’.

Really? You have Carragher publicly saying it was the worst window of all time and Wirtz being explicitly called out as is Isak. Nobody rates Frimpong at all either. Meanwhile Salah was turned on by the fans and has been dumped and released despite being probably our best attacker still.

Gakpo was crap as well and without the new league, team or age excuses. I think criticism was due and shared among a lot of our players.

He was one of our better players and got a goal and assist but he didnt exactly light the place up. Best of a bad bunch really.

Again. Go look at the disproportionate criticism he got last season compared to other players. And I will just leave it here. Gakpo is not the first, Lucas and Hendo before this and he will not be the last.

I just think it“s nonsense for the reasons I just outlined and he was very poor. Many of our players took a lot of criticism and still do. But happy to leave it here.

Sure yea nonsense

Totally agree Gasman, very good post :+1:

I do agree on the badly managed by Slot excuse point though. This narrative that we were only bad because Slot “ruined Klopp“s team“ is way too simplistic and the players can“t just blame Slot for their poor performances, as bad as he was.

I get the feeling a lot of our players fell out of love with football last season while playing under the tutelage of Slot… Maybe it was combination of coming down from the high of winning the PL the season before, and never recapturing the excitement of those events, to then be compounded by playing boring arse Slotball.
On the face of it, seems Iraola at least has a personality that can be related to, and maybe he just has to crank up the enthusiasm amongst the players again.

Arsenal have also been linked, and there have been rumours all summer but no takers yet after an underwhelming world cup, sounds like an agent wants some spending money or Lille needing to raise funds

I was wondering about this one. I watched bits of Lille-PSG on Friday, and I’m pretty sure I heard the commentators saying he was out of the squad because of a possible transfer. They mentioned Newcastle as well.

This is an interesting one, I’m pretty sure this is the guy who can play pretty well up front as well as on the wing… which would pretty much make him a straight Gakpo replacement.

Last season:

Did wonder if we would get a mention on that one.

The issue with buying Pardo-Fernandez is that the Liverpool squad would contain 3 wide players who collectively have fewer than 100 top flight apperances between them. I don’t know if that is ideal.

Means they develop together. May take time to get it right but.

I’m thinking about it from a risk and developmental point of view. It is really hard to gauge at this point what any of them are going to be as there is no prior basis with regards to consistent performance. I don’t think clubs that want to challenge are able to risk carrying 3 projects and 1 senior player across 2 positions, even if there is rotation involved.
I know it’s not Ideal but I think this is why they think Sarr is the best option for the side at this point.
