You don’t have to look far to find something to hate on with Curtis though. He’s stayed at the same level for the last four seasons with no real improvement. He’s not above average at all and contributes very little in any game outside of sideways and back passes. Upgrade badly needed if we are to challenge seriously for trophies. Forest will appreciate him.
I’m reminded of the same things, albeit in a different way said about Lucho, until he left and everyone started pining for him…
For the most part it was his annoying dad.
Re: Curtis Jones
Firstly I think Curtis is worth a squad place at best, but I hope LFC put a stop to players running down their contracts to leave for free, and if that means cashing in now, then so be it. Leaving for free is a trend that seems to have gathered pace since Emre Can decided to move away, and I believe we need to put a stop to it, and get what funds we can. Every little helps to push for a further ground extension, which by default, aids the community.
Secondly, for a number of years/seasons now I think Curtis has been hanging onto the academy achieving coat tails, of local lads coming through and making the grade. Obviously, the most recent was Arnold and we saw how good he was for us… then further back, Gerard, Owen, Fowler were also good for the club.
However, to me anyway, Jones has never possessed the ‘X’ factor of being extra special that these earlier players had…
I believe the crowd each season always held out hope that ‘the next’ season would be when he come good…Alas..!!
He was probably head and shoulders above others around him in the academy playing days, but the gap between that and becoming a ‘legend’ at LFC, is/has been a gap too wide for Curtis to bridge… Someone mentioned he flatters to deceive, which to me, perfectly sums him up.
Yes he is a local lad, yes he seems to love the club, but on the flip side, he is driving to games and training past foodbank stalls in his £450k car, which ironically, is too wide to fit down some of the narrow streets of Anfield…
It can be said with confidence, the vast majority of Liverpool lads (and girls), true Scousers, would hide their light (and especially their bling bling wealth), under a bushel…
If he wasn’t already at the club, I would be disappointed if I thought LFC went all out to sign Curtis from elsewhere… There are far better ‘train pushing’ players out there we could do with.
Seems like we won’t be buying Wharton.
Chelsea are looking at a move for Crystal Palace and England midfielder Adam Wharton after Liverpool and Manchester United both cooled their interest in the 22-year-old. (Caught Offside)
No but none of our midfielders would be.
He´s a local lad, solid and versatile and he´s already here. So it seems odd to get rid of such useful squad depth.
Yeah, and the homegrown quota is hanging on our neck after years of neglect (the botching of Guehi deal was among the worst). If you sell Jones now, you will have to replace him with another homegrown player or risk playing with a depleted squad.
Arsenal was able to build incredible squad depth by buying up top England internationals. We should be more open to that approach instead of running away, since Slot and Hughes had basically sold all of our match-ready Academy players (Morton and Quansah) last season and our next batch are far from ready. I always believe that we should have spent the Nunez money to buy Declan Rice a year before he actually went to Arsenal.
No it didnt. Most of their England internationals came through its youth set up.
Most of their depth came from buying foreign players.
We signed Nunez that window because there was a greater need identified for a forward than a defensive midfielder.
A better argument can probably be made around our not going for Anderson when Newcastle had to sell him.
I don’t think we have cooled our interest and CFC certainly do not need another CM
The one thing I do find strange is that with Wharton not at the WC, if he was going to move you’d think it would’ve happened by now.
This crops up now and again. Do you really believe Rice would have come to LFC considering where he came from and where he went?
This isn’t football manager and players of quality can choose as well.
Mr Here We Go confirming Villa have gazumped Newcastle for Johan Manzambi, possibly paving the way for Morgan Rogers to move to Arsenal once Trossard goes to Besiktas. Depending on the fee for Rogers it may rule Arsenal out of the running for Barcola with Liverpool still hoping to seal a deal - Newcastle get Arsenal youngster Kyran Thompson and I get a headache.
Is that enough unreliable rumours for one morning ![]()
Howe taking Sandcastle back to his relegation fighting days when he was at Bournemouth… They will this seasons West Ham/Spurs
We should be looking into Rogers too.
We really do need to boost the HG figures…Elliott is really a bench warmer at this point, not good enough as a top 6 club player at AM or RW…Jones is inconsistent.
Our HG is currently at 6, 7 if you include Harvey Elliott…If we sell any of the HG folks, we better be sure the U21s can more than adequately support the first team…
Our U21s that is in the first team squad has Pesci, Leoni, Danns, Rio and Munoz. These folks need not go into the registration.
Is that still true for the CL squad as well? I understand the regulations are slightly different there, when it comes to who counts as HG and who counts as U21.
The two times he played for England he bossed the games. At our club he is a sub and he is not the main man and just does a specific job without being able to make an impact.
UEFA is stricter. We can only have maximum 23 players allowed for List A as according to AI’s summary but so far using 21 if we assume Owen Beck, Gomez and Jones staying. That is after factoring Salah’s departure. If we want a bigger squad for UCL, it will need to come from List B.
If we sell Beck, Gomez and Jones, we can only have a 20 man quota for List A. Hardly ideal where we need to really dip deep into List B.
Curtis Jones has been part of teams that have won the Premier League twice, FA Cup, two EFL Cups, a Community Shield and the Club World Cup as well as being runners up in the Champions League.
Really don’t get the down some have on Jones, his head clearly didn’t fit in Slots plans,so why shouldn’t he get a chance to see if Ireola sees anything,if not,he may have to go,but give the lad a chance first.
Looks like Youri Tielemans is moving to Man Utd so that’s why they’ve got this lad.
