The Unreliable Transfer Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 5)

Based on the source it’s almost certainly bullshit. But, given the market for central midfielders this summer we could probably get a huge fee for him. And it does feel like there’s an imbalance in the group we have. With Grav and Dom signed up to new deals the fact there’s not been much talk of a new deal for Mac Allister is notable.

Nah he made his bed when he chose PSG over us he can lie in it I hope it is full of snakes.

That is my only concern unfortunately.

Yep, I don’t want us to be 2nd or 3rd choice for any player. If he doesn’t want to sign for us, he can do one.

What about Brahim Diaz?

I like him, would guess he could be an interesting option. Homegrown as well? Not that it’s the most important factor.

I don’t think it should be news that we’d consider selling Macca for the right price. I could have told you that a while ago, and I’m as plugged in as IndyKaila.

I’m more of the opinion that the way that MacAllister plays for his country… we are left with a shadow of the player when he gets back (due to injuries, fatigue, etc.).

The issue would also be the cost of replacing him because on his day there are few better.

It doesn’t matter what he is “on his day” when those days are few and far between.

Macca was shit for the bulk of this past season, and that was in Slot’s system which wasn’t nearly as rigorous. Maybe Iraola will rejuvenate him. Or maybe he’s cooked.

In any event, selling him for a big fee would make a ton of sense.

But most of the squad was shit last season they all fell off a cliff and the newbies underwhelmed.

That may be true in the sense it wasnt as fast as under Jurgen or what we expect from Andoni but equally we werent as compact either so Mac was having to cover much more space, more bodies to counter and therefore had more decisions to make.

Yup I’m not judging anyone on last season.

It wasn’t a matter of too many decisions or more space to cover. He was in the same system a year ago and he played well.

Effort levels dropped considerably. Macca’s shoes looked like they were filled with cement. Opponents routinely went past him without so much as a challenge. And he spent more time rolling all over the pitch for phantom fouls than he did actually impacting games.

There’s a reason so many assumed it was a fitness issue for the first month or so of performances. But it wasn’t a fitness issue or a system issue. It was a Macca issue.

He was arguably our best and most important player the year before in the title run. So the question is whether last year was the result of age and physical diminishment or being left on an island by a static setup. He just went to the World Cup fk Al as an ever present workshorse for Argentina (not that they did any good for any of their players sportsmanship reputations)

All of which means I have zero idea what our expectations should be for him this year.

If we are looking to change up our midfield, Macca is the obvious choice. 2yrs on his contract, likely interest and physically looks like its the right time for him to move. All our other midfielders are preferable right now

Mac Allister had a fitness issue from the tail end of the previous season. He didn’t look right from the very beginning and obviously as the season went down the drain, he never recovered.

Truth is we don’t know what to expect from him, but seeing that he is in his prime and just covered the second longest distance in the WC, odds are that he is far from finished.

This guy is supposedly very reliable for PSG. Seen as an Ornstein by their fans. Makes it sound like a move for barcola will come down to price (and possibly whatever Diomande does as hes also agreed personal terms with madrid as well as psg)

Edit:
Jacobs, who has become quite reliable also drawing a connection. Wont start a thread just yet, but seems to be a fair bit of noise around this

Edit 2:
Hawkins is usually good for French football

@Tanziloic

: PSG would only consider offers from €120m [£102.5m] to sell Bradley Barcola.
