The Unreliable Transfer Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 5)

Do you mean moves in or out? There are some obvious gaps in the squad as it stands, so they will be actively recruiting. I just hope he has a chance to work with the likes of Harvey and Curtis before they make any decision on their future.

Moves out I would say

Yeah, I meant outs, especially big ones like Gakpo.

Would have to be a silly offer to tempt us to sell him this summer and especially to someone who will have aspirations of closing the gap between them and us.

And in an area of the pitch we’re desperate to add to as we’re already thinking on options.

Surprised they haven’t offered a loan to buy even if he’s on one year left.

ā€œIrritatedā€.

:joy:

At this rate the offers will be going up in 1 euro increments, 10 payments spread over the next decade

It’s starting to remind me of the time that Saudi team offered Henderson a deal only to be shocked they had to pay a fee.

Pearce:

Given current price tags in midfield market, understandable Liverpool holding firm after turning down €25m verbal offer from Inter for Curtis Jones. Considerably short of valuation. LFC want around €40m for Jones, who has one year left on his contract.

I would like Jones to stay but it sounds like he may be wanting to leave.

If Jones wants to leave, is it Inter or bust?

You would have to think there are a number of Prem teams who would pay €40M for him (and given the prices being quoted for midfielders of a comparable level, that represents a bargain).

I would have thought he would have a number of options.

I assume Elliott and Bajectic are retained if this happens.

Italian teams can fuck off. I’d rather keep him for a year and lose him for free than dealing with those dickheads. They want Palestra and look like they’re going to pay around Ā£40m+ for him so they can bugger off claiming poverty.

This is what I’m trying to find out, too. I’m ā€œmonitoringā€ his exclusives this summer for that purpose.

To play the devil’s advocate, I don’t think it makes sense to sell Gakpo with Ekitike out for a long period. I mean, it’s not like he’s a good centre forward but I think he’d be a better option there than not having any if Isak continues getting injured.

Keep Gakpo if you want him set up to play like his first two seasons.

I’ve seen him play CF in person. He’s worse than a traffic cone.

Not his fault. That’s clearly not a role for him.

I think Jones is making a mistake but I understand if it’s his choice to leave and experience something new. Especially since the last manager was clearly so toxic that maybe things have broken down to a greater extent than we know.

I do not want to think we forced him out.

I’m also not keen on pursuing Scott and letting Jones leave, if indeed we are doing that. I’ve said it before that Scott and Jones are very similar players - but Jones does everything just a bit better.

The previous manager wasn’t toxic. There’s no evidence of that.
He simply failed to adjust successfully to the difficulty his team faced on and off the field from preseason onwards…

On Jones, I agree with you.
