The Unreliable Transfer Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 5)

He failed and was sacked. There is no need to over egg the pudding.

there’s no over egging anything. How many times do you know the liverpool fc manager getting actively booed at Anfield? That should be all the evidence anybody needs.

evidence…HAH!

Big question mark around Elliott is his contract situation. I think he has just one more year on his contract?

His waist circumference is a bigger question

Yeah i had been hopeful he would stay next season, until i saw you post that yesterday!

That’s evidence of a toxic environment in the fanbase. Not the team.

The manager failed and was sacked. Period.

Why do we need to find phantom reasons…

He didn’t lose the dressing room or the players. He simply failed to win…And now he’s gone.
We move on..

They can keep tabs all they like he’s got another 4 years on his contract, it is probably that guy who used to play for them and Southampton with an Italian name. Total rubbish they cant buy anyone until they offload quite of few of the pile of youngsters on 9 years contract LOL.

Oh you mean the fans were toxic. Yeah, I agree.

This was about the work environment at Kirkby though.

riiight…everybody else created toxic atmosphere but slot eh?

fans, salah, dom, jones…did i miss anyone?

slot was a paragon of virtue.

fans who pay good money to go see their team and support through thick and thin.

fans booed for no reason whatsoever eh? in a vacuum?

work environment in kirkby was the land of milk and honey.

so harmonious that the team came our looking like it was afraid of its own shadow.

I didn’t say any of that. Fans have every right to moan if they don’t like the football.

But the comment was that that the Slot had made the workplace was toxic, and there is no evidence of that.

Germany midfielder Felix Nmecha is open to leaving Borussia Dortmund and both Liverpool and Manchester United are interested in the 25-year-old. (Teamtalk)

Not Bayern?

Interesting.

I sometimes think he holds onto the ball too long but he“s quite skilful, powerful and can do some very good things.

We need to replace Curtis though, right? :innocent:

ha good point!

Would Nmecha count as homegrown?

I’m happy to say things broke down (to what extent we don’t know) between Slot and Jones. It doesn’t mean it was toxic, but neither was it the sort of arrangement where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.

Jones is a good player and I want him to stay. I hope he might sign a new deal but it very much looks like he wants out. If he moves on I’d like to see us sign a player like Sangare (not the Forest one) or Camara, to give us some protection in front of the defence.

We have good midfielders here already, but that protection seemed the glaring need based on what I saw last season. It looks like Iraola is going to set up an attacking team and a couple of wingers will be part of that. Bring it on!

I think in such a set up it is necessary to make sure you protect the defence while you deploy your attacking resources, hopefully to devastating effect. Whether you do that with existing personnel (possible) or add the likes of a Sangare to put their foot in, let’s see.

What we have to remember about Curtis is that he has an exceptionally high opinion of himself (which is not a criticism - players have to believe in themselves). Does anyone remember him having a pop at Klopp for not having him in the first team when he was about 18 or 19.

Basically I think he wants to be the main man. Two managers in a row have, I think, rated him - but stopped short of considering him first name on the teamsheet. I am certain that if he stays, Iraola will view him as a useful squad player in exactly the same way Klopp and Slot did. I think things got tense between him and Slot because they ultimately differed about what his role in the squad should be - Curtis thought he had done enough to have a nailed down place. And the form of the team only made Curtis more adamant that he should be in midfield running the show.

I suspect if we’re honest, most of us would side with the management on this. I have liked Jones through his Liverpool career, even when a lot of posters have slagged him off. I think he is a really good footballer. But if we had a fully fit squad and a CL final tomorrow, I’m not putting him in the midfield two ahead of Szoboszlai and Gravenberch. And it’s only Mac Allisters wretched form this year that would give me any hesitation that he wouldn’t be fourth choice. And, to add to that, I am expecting and hoping Liverpool by a midfielder this summer who is better than him.

I would love him to stay, but I would think - based on all that - an exit is more likely. He will go and be the top dog somewhere, but I suspect he will discover he’ll have to drop quite a level to find a team will to make him the star man I think he expects to be.

To me Jones is more a nuts and bolts type player. You never really notice them until they leave. That’s when people then realise his value. Klopp didn’t play him just because he is homegrown.
.
I think he would be a big loss. He was forced to play several different positions last year and did well.
