The Unreliable Transfer Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 5)

I think I understand his thinking here. Any other clubs in EPL would be a clear downgrade, while Inter still have a chance in the Champions League, etc. He’s already 25, so if he went to a mid-table club like Bournemouth or Brighton, it would pretty much settle his career and there wouldn’t be much chance to get back to elite clubs.

He seems very ambitious, but to be honest, Liverpool is the best chance for him to stick with the elite level because he’s club-trained. Very useful and I rate him highly, but if he can’t accept being second-string, it’s really tough for him.

I really like Jones and want him to stay and fight, because like Henderson, I love the underdog. Not rated highly by some quarters of fans, and the manager, but he keeps digging in and is never far away from the first team. He has skills and can easily be a mainstay in many teams in the PL. But he has to play more and getting into the national team is a side objective too, if he continues playing a bit part squad player, he won’t be able to do that. And he might look at players like Mctominay who was shit in Manures and became a big profile player in Italy, he fancies himself to go there too and try to make a name for himself, I would not begrudge him that.

I would. I can see a midfield three (or four) where Curtis is a nailed on starter. He’s a really good player who is really only missing goals from his game and he’s every right to feel disappointed not to have started more over the last couple of seasons. If he’s told he’s just a squad option I’m not surprised that he wants to move on.

Disagree. Jones’ finishing skills are very good. He played all his youth career as an attacker, not a midfielder.

Exactly, but he doesn’t score enough goals. He should be getting 5-10 a season.

A big part of that though was the injuries that he suffered just as he was getting a run in the side and putting in some good performances.

I think his call now to be the main man is less about being a nailed on starter but in his role within the squad.

I imagine he’s watching the World Cup and thinking he’s more than good enough to be playing there. Unlikely to get a place unless he goes to another club and becomes their star player. I think he’s a super footballer but just not quite good enough to be the main man at Liverpool

I’d like Jones to sign a new contract here but unfortunately I can see why Jones might be set on leaving and why he might be set on a move to Inter over going to another prem club. Looking at other players that have made the move to Italy, he has a good chance of becoming an important player for Inter, experiencing a different lifestyle and despite the standard of the league being lower, being a key player for Inter still carries a bit of prestige to it.

I always get the impression Jones thinks more of himself than coaches do. He does not seem to progress. Is that attitude or ability? That could also bleed into a bad attitude / bad egg.

There have been murmurings of him being not great behind the scenes. That might be pure conjecture.

I, for one, would be happy to sell at a decent price. He has had plenty of chances to show he can boss a game. He does not.

And slower pace Italian, French football would suit him.

France is a way too low level for him. He’d be the best player in the league that doesn’t play for PSG.

Jones can’t play at CDM

Neither could Alex Scott, until he learned it. Ryan Christie wasn’t a central midfielder either, until Iraola started using him there.

In the way that Scott does it? Yes he can.

Yes he can. He has played it very well.

Jones is going to kill it in a slower league - Inter would be an ideal destination for him in my opinion. Highly technical midfield, organised side, more time on the ball than in PL. They know what they’re doing. I’d love it if we could keep him, especially given his progress over the last two seasons - it doesn’t have anything to do with homegrown quota or him being Scouse, he’s simply a good player and we should be keeping those.

Good all rounder. Plays like Grav from what I’ve seen. Seems like a bit of an unsavoury character from some stuff out there on the interwebz.

Yup no thanks

In September 2025, Nmecha caused controversy when he shared a post voicing grief over the assassination of Charlie Kirk

Not on the basis of Charlie Kirk but I had little clue who he was and I was highly involved in social media politics at that time, I really can’t see a footballer knowing much about Kirk.

Anyhow apparently he’s also linked to Man Utd, sounds perfect for them

He’s Christian and has a history of positively engaging with social media content from the American christofascist right (Matt Walsh types) that most people think is bigoted.(well, it is bigoted, but stuff they defend by just saying “I am only living my life according to the bible”)

It’s funny how they never seem to quote Thomas Aquinas or something.

Ah so probably did know Kirk.
