Think him not being included highlights two issues. We had Origi and Minamino on the bench so whilst it’d be great to add another wide forward that means one of those two potentially aren’t even making the bench.
And even if we don’t add another wide player, when does Brewster get his chance? Without that time does he just stagnate in the U23s and get the odd cup game.
Starting to become really obvious why there’s a need to move some players on before we add others and not just for the transfer fees.
One thing I don’t quite get is how Bayern are relaxed.
They’ll lose one of their key players.
They’ll be left with Kimmich, Goretzka, Martinez, Tolisso and Cuisance.
Martinez looks dead and in his final year, Tolisso missed a lot of football lately and Cuisance is inexperienced at the top level, not even sure what type of midfielder. Muller is a single #10 at best, I don’t see him as an advanced #8.
They haven’t sold anyone yet (-£40m which went for Sane so far), the word is that they really want a new RB (Pavard doesn’t like the position and sees himself at CB long term). That means Kimmich could be moved to his natural midfield role.
But still… a bit weird. Thought they would be looking at a midfield signing of some sort. It would create more pressure to engage in advanced negotiations for the sale of Thiago.
It’s his typical MO to rant publicly about whatever he think’s unjust. It’s almost always bollocks , but creates domestic headlines.
Rumor has it , that back in the day some people apparently caved under his shaming wrath (or so Bayern fans told me)
The more I think about it the less I think this happens.
Doesn’t look like the Barca interest in Gini has materialised into anything and Gini hardly looks like a player pushing to leave. Talk is of need to sell to raise funds and clear squad space before we buy but CB and wide forward are greater priorities.
Plus if we’re being cautious about money now perhaps isn’t the time to bring in someone who will likely be a top earner when we have other new contracts to negotiate.
In my mind , this has gone from ‘done deal’ to ‘highly unlikely’ in little more than a week.
Gutted if that is the case. After seeing that vid of him banging 40yd pinpoint passes on the volley , I don’t think I’ll ever get over the disappointment.
Going of recent news after talks with Klopp and news from a Dutch journalist over the past few days,it looks like Gini wants to stay and is waiting for new contract talks with the club.
I think work is going on behind the scenes to move on the likes of Wilson,Grujic,Phillips and any others deemed surplus to requirements,to make way for funds.I think they are playing a waiting game with Bayern over Thiago, with rumours we are looking to low ball them in the last week of the window,if we sold players now and have money floating around, fans will be asking why we aren’t buying anyone for the next couple of weeks,it’ll also make Bayern hold out for the 30mill they want, knowing we’ve got the cash.
Another rumour today in the Echo says we are looking at CB Omar Colley from Sampdoria for around £10mill as a back up,whether thats true or just the usual transfer link to make a story i dunno??
Talkshite now reporting we are waiting until the final week of the window.
Liverpool will wait until the final week of the transfer window to make an official move for Bayern Munich’s Spain midfielder Thiago Alcantara, 29. (Talksport)
Prolongs the clicking…nevertheless, to retain Gini and sign Thiago would be immensely shrewd.
In what universe would anybody involved in the negotiations tell the press that we’re going to wait until the last moment and then bid Bayern in the nuts?! It’s preposterous
