Do I get bonus points for being pleasant by not pointing out how I was right that the reason we hadn’t already signed Thiago wasn’t because of foreign player limits and weakening our bargaining position for selling Karius, Grujic or Shaq?
Enjoyed my 15 minutes flicking through here with a brew, plenty of salt in there but surprisingly a fair few balanced responses from them which surprised me.
Sort of expected we would do deals later on, delighted for this, always felt our midfield had a lot of quality about it but not that it factor, Certainly not the creative quality that Thiago will bring.
This makes us even stronger now and allows to cover elsewhere. I would expect cover for the front three once we clear some of the players who are rumoured to go.
The rumour that’s going round is that Bayern told Liverpool if something wasn’t sorted by the start of the German season, it wasn’t happening. That got the negations going again, and Bayern accepted the concessions around the fee.
By the way, the structure of the deal (5m per year for four years) to me suggests a compromise between the recruitment and and the finances. It feels like Klopp really wanted this player, and a way has been found to make this happen.
no disrespect to gini, and even though his form has dipped i still think fabinho is a very good player
but
keita hendo
thiago
is the midfield i’m most excited to see
somewhat counterintuitive to play thiago deepest on the surface but he’s quite disciplined positionally and i like hendo as the right #8 running around like a maniac
Good news. I was worried we would have no depth if one good player came in and another left.
Not fussed about Wilson, Gruic, Shaq or Brewster leaving as they dont play anyway but if you get rid of one first teamer for another you lose squad depth.
Yeah. Although it feels like both sides have moved to make this happen. Bayern have accepted a smaller upfront fee, and agreed to it spread over four years.
With Thiago’s heart set on Liverpool, Bayern we’re sort of boxed in. It feels like Liverpool really wanted to get some cash in off sales first, but Bayern’s willingness to compromise on the price/structure made it happen.
I think negotiations between clubs are usually a lot more cordial than we sometimes presume.
I think 4-2-3-1 also suits a lot of our midfield and back up attacking players as well. Will be interesting to see if Origi stays as I would like to see him as the main striker in a 4-2-3-1.
