They won’t let it go at the press conferences. RM are stirring shit through their usual channels. The only ones to keep schtum are Trent and the club.
There isn’t any saga.
whatever he decides good luck to him and his family. I have always said footballers and managers are transitional employees, here one day and gone the next. Having grown up in liverpool academy and being 26, there is an allure to try something different and that is all part of the growing up process and evolving as a human being. The only thing is, please make your decision quickly and dont let it drag on. Good luck young man, whichever direction you choose to go.
It’s just modern football. I am not sure how I feel. But if he wants to go then get some money.
Good luck with that. Even if he only had eyes for us, it makes absolutely no sense for him to reject the Real Madrid interest. Why would he give up bargaining power like that?
Don’t feel anything, don’t give a shit about any “news” until he’s signing a contract somewhere, either with us or with another club.
Anything else would just be agenda-driven manipulation, whether to unsettle fans or to sell ads via clicks and views.
Yes there is.
What exactly is a saga.
Icelandic stories or cruises for the over 50s
Both left a Liverpool in relative tumult so they could finally win the big prizes - TAA is doing it for the money/experience. Narrower margins for it to make sense…
So did mascherano and Xabi.
Real are doing shit this year. A pale shadow of their former selves. Can’t even karate chop themselves into winning. Why would you leave to join a team that plays about as well as Everton?
They always start slowly and pick up later in the season. As long as they’re still in the CL, they have a good chance of winning it.
If Trent decides to move on for pastures new, I wish him all the best. He has won everything here, and if the allure of Real Madrid is tugging at him, I understand the desire to experience something else. Sunshine. Money. Huge club, probably the world’s biggest. Guaranteed trophies, or at the worst, guaranteed to be competing for the league and CL down to the wire every season.
No qualms here about a person’s desire to go, and see. It’s a short career and good luck to him if he decides to move on.
The part I don’t like is the Bosman stuff, as that leaves the club short, and if we lose such a good player from the squad we need to reinvest. It is not just about seeing out your contract, since transfer fees are a huge part of the game. LFC will be left short if Trent goes on a Bosman, and since his new employers are very rich, that leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Trent will pocket a great wage and a huge signing bonus, and LFC will get nothing from the transaction, when we gave him the opportunity and made him the player he is.
If that’s how it pans out, so be it. I am confident LFC will be quite fine.
Mind you, while nothing is official one way or the other, I still hold out some hope he will sign a new deal here. But obviously the signs are strongly pointing toward a summer exit.
We were both very good for each other.
How many young players earn or get a chance and accomplish at a club what Trent did, not many.
Players have certain freedom when these situations happen for whatever reason and I’m fine with it.
Even if he had a potential move on a free in his mind years ago, I never saw it in his performances and behaviour. Form can vary as it did, that’s normal.
To sign anything, you always need both sides to agree.
The fact that we were unable so far to agree a new deal with him is probably combination of factors and timing, I don’t think it’s 100% the club’s fault or 100% Trent’s fault.
We’ll never know the full details and dynamics of that relationship and negotiations.
The club cannot give anything to anyone and if the player wants to go more than stay, sometimes there is no condition(s) that can change it.
The one we can afford to lose - what do fans think?
Sean: Trent is a big lad. He will make his own choice. I’d love him to stay. The sadness hovering over it all is that we fans fear he’ll end up like Michael Owen, trading legendary status for a trip to Spain. I hope when Alexander-Arnold returns to Anfield he gets a better reception than Owen did (largely ignored). Madrid is a top club and wonderful city. But it ain’t Liverpool!
Russ: Trent has been at the club for 20 years and has won absolutely everything so you can understand if he wants a change of scene. What he needs to understand is he will never be adored by the Madrid fans like he is at Anfield. He will never get to captain the club he supposedly loves and he will never win the Ballon d’Or regardless of which club he plays for. He will be always be welcomed back to Anfield but not with open arms - he has tarnished his legacy like Owen and McManaman.
Fraser: Whereas Salah and Virgil have made it clear they want to stay (and I’m fairly confident both will extend), Trent has been quiet the whole time which makes me fear the worst. The thing that infuriates me most is he is trying to leave on a free and Liverpool get nothing in return. This is very disappointing from Trent and pretty selfish from him as well, I just hope this doesn’t sabotage or derail our campaign. Good thing Conor Bradley is near to returning.
Tommy: Out of the three players, he is the one we can afford to lose. He’s a luxury player who too often doesn’t live up to the massive hype on him. We have a ready-made replacement, so he can go. It is getting boring now. He, like Owen, will be warming the bench at Madrid.
Enton: First and foremost, as a lifelong Liverpool fan, losing Trent would be a massive blow… That’s a no-brainer. However, I think he’s made his mind up and who can blame him? When Real Madrid comes knocking, you answer the door! Having built his friendship with Jude Bellingham via England duty, the process of settling in will be a lot easier as well. It’s up to Liverpool now to try to get the best deal possible (if it’s not too late).
Of course he’s gonna give such an answer. Even if there were signs of destabilization inside. But if we have experience as fans following this, I think this season, so far, there’s none of it. At least nothing serious and visible.
Having Bradley back helps if his form was to drop.
I have a feeling VVD is pretty much signed and Salah is showing no signs of destabising.
I don’t know if true but I did read an article saying that part of Trent’s conditions for staying is wanting the Captaincy further down the line.
If this is true then it is a no from me, a player earns the captaincy through trust of the Coach, he isn’t given it due to demands.
Apart from that I am like some, that no player is bigger than the club, but I do want him to stay as we all know what he can do on the ball, and for most of this season his defensive game has improved.
