Australia. Coastal town not too far from Sydney. Very lovely.
It’s a long way from my days as an 80s Brixton squatter, but life is full of surprises.

I’ve never known a period like this. Here it doesn’t just rain the night but the whole day.
Last year was exceptionally dry at this time.
Normally the rain that falls during February is relied upon to replenish the nappe phréatique.
It’s been an incredible time, some very cold moments followed by very warm and now unrelenting rain.
It’s like there’s no seasons anymore.
Btw last summer was strange as well. June like August sweltering and August was ‘cold’ almost like an October.
This climate change is doing my head in. You don’t know what outdoor clothing to wear, one day it is so mild, the next day, its below freezing.
I noticed that about 5 yrs ago when we just went straight from Summer to Winter with nothing inbetween
It’s been a proper mixed bag in the Alps, Pyranes and Dolomites this winter. Snow initially came early to many areas. Then there was a period of nothing, followed by some massive storms that have brought huge amounts of snow in.
But, in some cases there’s been very little.
I visited La Plagne earlier and they had that early snow (October / November), then nothing. They had a good bit before we arrived but towards the end of our week conditions were rock hard and getting really thin in places. The following 2 weeks they’ve seen a lot with the resort closed on one day due to avalanche risk.
My son has just finished a week in Andorra. Considerably more snow than last year, well over 1m more (on the ground) and some “interesting” weather while they were there too.
Japan has been absolutely battered this year with massive snow storms.
That whole sector is changing I feel. Resorts below 1800m are in a mixed bag and at real risk of closure. Many are closing.
Sounds like Scotland. There are two seasons: Winter and June.
Winter and midgie.
Huge temperature swings here. We had very cold weather, -20/30C, with loads of snow and ice. Then a couple of days ago it was 22C and I wore shorts and a t-shirt when I went out with the dogs. The abrupt shift put lots of the region under tornado watches, but we didn’t get anything here. Now it’s back down to a more usual -1C.
I don’t usually wear headphones/ear buds while out for brisk walks. However, during last autumn, I did just that with a month of outdoors walking with music in my ears using a pair of ear buds. I started to get irritations and hearing issues. I never gaven much thought about it other than knowing I was getting some ears issues, and a little bit of antibiotics ear drops would cure it.
Last week, I came across 2 articles (one listed below). It was like a lightbulb went on in my head. As a result, I gave myself an excuse to spend some money…buying a pair of “Open Earbuds” instead (bought a pair of Shokz OpenFit 2+ after some discount). Not sure if I should spend more (significantly more, as it already cost more, and does not have discounts) to have the OpenFit Pro, which has noise cancellation.
Any audiophiles here?
Felt a bit warmer for the first time today. Seems like it has slightly gone up to. Still raining mind.
Seems everywhere is the same, here in New Zealand, February tends to be settled weather wise with hot sunny day’s, but alas no such luck we have heaps of heavy rain and Wellington’s special sauce, lots of very strong winds.
But otherwise all hunky dory .
Thats very unfair…
There is 45 mins of sunshine in between!
We had a lot snow here but not as bad as the ‘snowmageddon’ Februarys of 2017 and 2018. Further north, especially in Aomori, the snowfall was incredible. Sadly, about three dozen people were killed in snow related accidents, very often when clearing snow off roofs.
Weirdly, right now it’s like April. It’ll reach almost 20 degrees today, so I’ll be out for a bit of hike this afternoon
I’ve been wearing IEMs for hours each day for the best part of 18 years, and my hearing seems to be as decent as ever. Anecdotal, mind, but then again I think it also helps that I usually listen to my music on the absolutely lowest volume I can enjoy it on.
The IEM market seems to be completely dominated by Chinese brands now though.

I Asked Audiologists if My Earbuds Are Damaging My Ears - CNET
Not an audiophile as such, but I do have hearing loss. I have a set of hearing aids, but I found that I get ear infections or irritation if using them for any great amount of time. I use an over-the-ear headset for work (combined with close-captions for meetings) and for listening to the radio, I have open backed headphones (Sennheiser) which are good for long periods, but do leak noise, so are unsuitable when other people are around.
Just got back from Tignes, half-term.
We were staying at Val Claret (Tignes 2100)…they had almost 40% of the season’s snowfall thus far in the last week (the busiest week of the season)…
It were bonkers.

Storms have been nuts these last 2 weeks.
Can’t beat fresh pow.
Could barely get out there!! And when you could, visibility was completely fucked.
Sun is coming out this week.
Shafted.
lol
Rough.
Been caught in a white out once. Not great, ended up with concussion. In Tignes funnily enough.
Great resort though.
Jello. Haven’t been on (or off) piste for several years and with school fees now over 6 figures, and my wife not partial to pow, likely won’t be doing so for several more
