I’ll take both of those, thanks.

I was watching the Côte d’Ivoire-Ecuador match, and Rebecca Lowe said “Yan Diomande is apparently off to Liverpool.”

I don’t know if she has inside knowledge or is just reporting speculation, but that sounded strangely definitive.

May be geolocked to Canada.

I heard her say that too. Seemed a bit strange for a journalist to say that to Thiago in the studio. It made me wonder if she is just repeating speculation, or if in the ‘industry’ it is known that we have Diomande in the bag.

Maybe she meant it as a open question for discussion.

I wouldn’t have thought “apparently” would count as being definitive?

Neither would I,but maybe a lot of wishful thinking,I wouldn’t put him out with the garbage either.

His performance against Ecuador

You can see he would always be a threat and that he´s not a stupid winger. He passes pretty well, he´s quick and he laid on two good chances to score. His dribbling is a bit mixed and sometimes feel like he could go at them more, but he´s always going to be a threat overall.

Sure, but it’s the framing that was noteworthy. It represents a significant development in the story beyond what we are hearing, even if still couched in journalistic language

Diomande was a threat all night. That pace is electric. He’s young and will only improve…let’s get this wrapped up!

It was an interesting choice of words from Rebecca who is a pro. “Apparently” isn’t definitive, but why not say he’s linked to Liverpool and PSG? Safer that way.

Should we sign Yan the man given the chance and is he worth every bit of the €130m RBL value him at?

This is the only way to settle it.

I just want them to get it done. If they have the money for it, do it.

Yes, sign him up.

Don’t like the price though. These days you pay too much for emerging players. He is definitely a talent, but the body of work is not fully there behind him yet.

Still, that’s more the system than anything else, and younger players are going for ridiculous sums these days, especially if the talent is there and there’s competition from teams at the top to sign them up.

If we have a chance to sign him and we don’t, I think we will regret it.

Hopefully the price will come in less than 130M euros as that is starting to get silly.

I actually really like that in a winger of his type. There are some players who can carve out a career by only being good enough to run at beat and a FB. The ones who really kick on are not those who get even better at beating that FB, but who add the variety to their game so that running at the FB becomes only 1 option.

Yeah. I mean, I think it´s still a massively important skill to be able to beat full backs with dribbling, but the really top players like Lamal and Olise can pass the ball into the box and work openings alongside their dribbling. Pass and move is and always will be one of the top skills.

As you say, having the variety of skills so that it´s harder to shut them down. Stand off and he passes it into the box, get tight and he can go past you.

We can say get it done all you like but Leipzig and his agent know he’s hot property going into the global spotlight of the world cup and that barring injury his price and contract demands are only going to go in one direction.

Same with Traore on the other wing who we’ve been linked with and Bouaddi and anyone else who has a half decent tournament.

If you’re an agent who is confident in your players ability and there’s interest in him, you’re not letting him move before or during the tournament.
