Yan Diomande (Winger) RB Leipzig

While he’s away at the World Cup?

Well Van Hecke has.

yep

And Cucurella has.

Just a reminder but currently 100m euros translates to about 85 million pounds. That’s a reasonable price if you project him as the starter on the right wing to replace legendary winger Mohammed Salah.

Are current market prices for footballers kind of crazy? Of course they are but they have been that way for the past few years and it’s not going down any time soon.

Diomande does NOT look like a teenager out there. He has the body of a grown man and he is certainly a threat on the wings with both passing and dribbling. How’s his finishing though?

If Liverpool can sign him from Leipzig it feels like we would have two really talented young wingers with Diomande and Ngomuha.

no idea how Wirtz and them two fit in all together, but just imagining Wirtz playing either of them two in… kinda sounds OK dont it…

The market is the market, it’s of course a willing buyer and willing seller situation. But 85mil for a player that granted has just one good season and in all practicality his first professional full season. Wirtz at least comes on the back of playing alot of football already on top of his excellent performances. Isak had been a top PL striker for few seasons. So at least the risks are calculated. I still remember the reverse when Barcelona paid us over the top for Coutinho on the back of a good season and we saw how that turn out.

Of course it’s different nowadays, is it a risk of course, a massive one but I can only trust the professionals but it would be remiss to say that there are no wingers in the 30-40mil category that had potential like Diomande but probably with lesser exposure. Just for example Carlos Forbs (not saying he is necessary great but an example)

i think youve got to back your opinion sometimes…

i still hark back to Shane Warne, and when he broke through for Australia, it wasnt on the back of some big numbers in club cricket.

those that knew. knew.

i cant be sure on Diomande, but if the powers that be see an 85 million pound footballer, with a season less in his legs, then the club can do worse than back them.

its a really tight market right at that top level.

Don’t think we are getting him. PSG will no doubt sweep in. Oil cunts.

Cricket is more of an eye test sport than what is football.

I’ll give you a more recent example in cricket as well. Bumrah.

Yeah, I agree with @sithbare that it can be easier to spot in cricket - particularly in Warne’s case, there aren’t many leggies with his level of control or turn.

Looks similar.

No one really with the control. McGill did get that with the turn but he didn’t have the control

I feel the same way when someone like Wasim Akram is trying to coach someone on how to bowl. His action worked for him. Doesn’t mean it’s repeatable.

Cricket as a sport has that leeway to spot unusual actions etc etc. Because it’s a highly individual driven sport in a team game.
.

Football isn’t that

I think for a player of his age he has decent finishing and it´s usually something that comes more with age.

You´re right, he´s physically very capable and would always be a threat.

Im still a little skeptical on the Ngomuha hype but he´s certainly a promising backup for the wings. If we can get Diomande and another good winger we´d be a massive different threat already.

The problem for us is, if not Diomande, who?

And we NEED somebody good.

Don’t get me wrong, if we decide to buy Yan, so be it, have to trust the professionals. But at 19 years old and at such a price tag, with only one full season behind him, he will not be afforded time. He might jolly well do damn well but he might falter and we will not be able to move him on and end up buying another one. Understand its the market reality but I am also talking the other reality if we spend big on a 19 year old and he doesn’t do well. I obviously do not have the scouting skills but it will be a tragedy that we don’t have scouts who identified a 2nd tier potential who might show the same potential as Yan but probably in a lesser league or not the flavour of the month exposure.

And Silva.

You are not going to have much room for pitching the player the move during the tournament, but if you’ve already done that leg work, as has been done with these signings and as we had back in the day with Diouff, then it is not at all unusual to get a provisional agreement signed during the tournament (usually pending a post-tournament medical)
