Well I don’t think we can afford both this time…
We really don’t need both this time. The problem with Slot was that he never trusted his bench , even in his league winning year.
I didn’t trust his bench either.
I called bullshit on this tactics when he had won the league last year.
The issue is with Slot. He talked a different game and the matchday squad often ended up playing different football
The club has around £250m available through it’s existing borrowing facility. FSG may even be open to selling a bit of itself again like it did a year or two ago (to redbird?) Or use other borrowing options - I think a recent Athletic article had said the club were using interest free loans from the parent group for some of their transfer dealings (although I only remember seeing that used for the early stadium work I think).
While Mo leaving has also freed up about £15m for reinvesting either into the wage bill or for paying fees.
Although, when we were losing he wasn’t afraid of throwing on his favourite player: Kitchen Sink, along with Twin Tub, Spin Dryer, and Airing Rack in place of any remaining defenders.
Exactly. Just to prove himself right.
Isn’t the whole PSR thing changing this summer anyway?
My basic understanding is you can’t spend more than 85% of your revenue on “squad costs” which includes wages, transfer fees, agent fees, etc. Transfer fees are calculated over the duration of the contract so Munoz only “costs” us £5.75m plus his wages this summer.
With one of the biggest revenues in world football, even on the back of a down season, we should have capacity to be one of the bigger spenders again.
Whether we should be spending nearly £200m on Diomande, Jacquet and Munoz, all of whom are very young and still quite raw is another question but we should be able to if that’s the plan.
We always had the money to spend.
Yep, some videos I watched on the new system a month or two ago suggested we were one of the clubs that would benefit in terms of being able to spend a lot more, as we were well under the new spending cap as it stands.
Yeah I feel if we are that close (even if at times we walked away from deals where we didn’t want to cross a certain point), this is likely gonna get done. Especially if he puts in another few good performamces at the WC.
I feel like we’ll definitely reach an agreement with RBL over the fee, my main concern at this point is PSG coming in and doing to us what we just did to Newcastle.
So not counting chickens just yet - hopeful but cautious.
Not that I want to turn this into a finance thread but didn’t Mo Chatra say last season that we could spend around £500m and that was without sales?
Not officially until the following season, but they are doing some weird interim thing this year as a transition. Im pretty sure we’re still bound by the old PSR but have to submit accounts according to the new SCR rules…kind of like a dry run. In reality it is still requiring clubs to spend within their means so doesnt change that much with the biggest changes being the reporting requirements that allow violations and penalties to be assessed in real time
That was a release clause, here there isn’t one.
Of course, anything is possible until it’s done, but surely PSG would be worried if we got to final stages and they’re not there yet.
Questionable for them and for the player since their main attack is pretty much formed, which isn’t the case here (although we have more things to clarify).
Yeah, for all the discussion over who will sign him this summer, RBL have been pretty consistent that they don’t want to let him leave yet and want one more year from him. Of course that could well be just posturing, but could be a real position regardless of whether it is held hopefully or belligerently. That is why it seemed to be relevant that yesterday a couple of accounts suggested that Yan had told them he wanted the move and the bits from more legit sources talking about Liverpool having no concern about personal terms kind of backs up the idea that the player has decided he’s ready for it.
I think that’s what PSG are waiting for ie Diomande to choose where he wants to go and if he chooses PSG they then will go all out to sign him but if his choice is Liverpool then they will hold their hands up and move on.
He’s probably waiting for PSG to outbid us and make him feel wanted.
