If he comes to us he’s a potential world beater. If he goes to PSG he’s an overhyped waste of money
TIA ran an article about the Liverpool quotes:

I think it’s just a case of his dad liking many big clubs. ![]()
Conceicao
Yan Diomande as a profile…
What does he do well and who else could we be targeting?
Key Elite skills vs all Top 7 Leagues
- Goal Conversation % = 18th. He is massively overperforming his xG which shows elite finishing.
- Progressive Carries = 10th. Regularly carries the ball through the lines into dangerous positions.
- Successful Dribbles = 16th. Wins his 1v1 at a very high rate.
- Key Passes = 19th. Not all about himself, creates chances for others.
Who else has a similar profile?
I searched for Top 7 leagues on Goal Conversation % and Key Passes to get my shortlist. Then cross-referenced with Carries and Dribble %.
These were players under 25 who came up in the above average quadrant for both metrics (I removed some who were barely above average or had not played much and focused on high scorers)…
- Jeremy Doku, 24, Manchester City
- Michael Olise, 24, Bayern Munich
- Kenan Yildiz, 21, Juventus
- Abde Ezzalzouli, 24, Betis
- Bazoumana Toure, 20, Hoffenheim
- Jean-Matteo Bahoya, 21, Frankfurt
- Andreas Schjelderup, 22, Benfica
So obviously we can’t sign Doku or Olise but if we want someone of the same profile as Diomande then the other guys on the list are the ones to target.
Problem with him is the lack of goals and how diminutive he is. I’d worry that physically he’d get gobbled up in this league, whereas with Diamande you can see similarities with Mane in terms of how powerful he looks when running with the ball.
Ezzalzouli is the one from that last.
No brainer signing in my opinion. Not a kid and ready to come in and do big things now.
His lack of goals in Serie A is a bit disconcerting, but he is getting into positions with regularity. He is small in stature, but he is not slight, and I’ve seen him stay strong going round guys often. Lower center of gravity helps I think.
He has scored for Portugal at a better rate than Juve, and I think, at 23 now, he just may be hitting his stride. Don’t think he will ever be a prolific goal scorer from the wing like Mo, but with Isak and Ekitike in the side, do we NEED another prolific goal scorer?
I just think his ability to get by defenders and wreak havoc on the right side, and for a fraction of the cost of Diomande, would be welcome Merseyside. Also looks the profile of ready to breakout to that next level to me.
Never heard of him, but looks like another LW?
Edit: Toure is too lol
But would he create for our 200 mil plus of strikers?
Good points you made and I do agree they are fair.
He is the kind of player who can go past anybody though and great left foot.
yeah he is
Ex Barca now plays at Betis. Loads of goals and assist, quick and can dribble.
Scored against Chelsea in the final.
Part of the issue with replacing Salah is the lack of elite left footed forwards at the moment.
Wasn’t familiar with some of these so looked them up, they’re all LW lol.
The search for a RW target goes on…
Diomande himself is also a right footed left winger so I don’t think that would immediately close the door on a transfer.
Sure, but he’s played a lot there, from what I could see none of those players really has by comparison.
This is the most basic possible scouting process though lol, I’m really not equipped to say if one or more of them could successfully be deployed on the right for us!
For me we need to be signing starters for both wings.
But it´s true that for the right wing there aren´t as many good options.
Diomande can, Conceicao is one. Otherwise? Kubo?
We should loan Endrick
I’m thinking the same, that this can’t be one of those situations where it’s their #1 target or nothing.
I’ve heard others mention El Mala as well, but I never got around to watching him play this season. But 45m for a guy who seems to be highly rated, that’s a good fee.
There’s also a couple of La Liga wingers I’m curious about, Abde at Betis and Victor Munoz at Osasuna. I remember Abde was at Barca, and it seems like he’s now establishing himself as a good La Liga winger.
Me neither, just trying an exercise using Diomande as a model. Maybe it’s time to roll the clock back and get some old-school proper wingers none of this cutting inside shit. Where’s Matthew Etherington when you need him?
What about Rodrygo? We were somewhat linked last year, and now he’s apparently one of the ones Mou has put on the chopping block at Real…
Hopefully it’s not over with Diomande, but the PSG quote sounds a bit ominous.
My expectation is that a club with our resources should be shopping at all levels of the market. If we go big on a player or two, I’ve no problem with that. But we also need to box clever and unearth better value with other signings.
The point is well made that just shopping in the emerging gems market is problematic for us, as we are expected to compete at the top end from the off. The margin for giving as many minutes to the likes of a Kroupi or Rayan while they cut their teeth is not the same at Liverpool as Bournemouth, for example.
It’s a tricky conundrum but overall I expect us to manage it and shop at all levels of the market, putting stars right in, and giving solid players a chance to do well for us, while also unearthing one or two young players who will do ever so well for us.
It’s a tough assignment, but we operate in rarified air and that’s how it is.
